Event Detail
The 2026 Zuohai Fuzhou Marathon marks the tenth edition of Fuzhou's flagship city road race. Founded in 2015, the event has grown from a domestic city marathon into a World Athletics Elite Label race, and organisers say more than 300,000 runners have taken part across its first nine editions. The 2026 field is capped at 35,000, making it one of the larger major-city races on the late-season Asian calendar.
The race starts from Wuyi Square in central Fuzhou. The redesigned 2026 course continues the event's "Min River as the axis, ancient and modern in reflection" concept, linking historic and contemporary parts of the city. Published route material highlights Shangxiahang, Heart of the Min River, Yantai Hill and the north and south riverside roads, with the overall finish at Fuzhou Strait International Conference and Exhibition Center. Organisers have specifically lengthened the opening section before Sanfang Qixiang from about 2.8 km to 4.5 km to reduce early congestion and improve rhythm for runners chasing personal bests.
Entry used a pre-registration and ballot system. The initial application window ran from 10 to 19 September, with direct-entry standards for qualifying marathon runners and ballot results released on 30 September. Marathon applicants were required to show recent full-marathon or half-marathon results, while half-marathon applicants needed recent 10 km-or-longer race experience.
The tenth-edition programme also emphasises runner support and event technology. Organiser material describes a layered medical system using ambulances, mobile AEDs, fixed medical stations, first-aid personnel, medical runners and course observers. Smart-event tools cover registration, race communications and results, while AI-enabled course cameras are planned to create personalised race videos.
The 2026 participant shirt and finisher medal both use anniversary design elements. The medal, called "Anqiang Moyu", draws on Fuzhou's traditional saddle-wall architecture and jasmine, and opens to reveal city landmarks. Full-marathon finishers breaking three hours are also promised a commemorative sub-three windbreaker.
