Event Detail
The Chongqing round of the Chinese Athletics Association 10K Elite Series brings competitive road running to the Yangtze River waterfront on Sunday 18 October 2026. Organised with local athletics and district authorities, the event combines a chip-timed 10 km race with a shorter, untimed 5 km fun run. The published field allocation is 10,000 participants, split equally between the two distances. That makes the day both a national-standard racing opportunity and a sizeable community running occasion.
Running along Nanbin Road
Both distances depart from the Dongyuan 1891 Building C area of Nanbin Road in Chongqing's Nan'an District. The 10 km course travels along the riverfront road before returning towards the starting precinct. The 5 km route is a different, shorter point-to-point experience, with its published finish near the Chaotianmen Bridge. The riverside corridor is one of the city's distinctive urban landscapes, but participants should rely on the final official route plan for access restrictions, turning locations and any last-minute changes.
Timing and course management
The organiser specifies an 08:00 local-time start. The 10 km has electronic chip timing and a 90-minute overall cutoff; an intermediate restriction applies around the 5 km mark. The 5 km event is recreational rather than chip-timed, and its participants have a 90-minute completion window. Refreshment stations are identified at approximately 2.5 km, 5 km and 7.5 km on the competitive route. Baggage storage is offered for 10 km runners only, with storage closing before the start and collection required promptly after finishing.
The competitive race is open from age 16 under the published rules. Children can enter the fun run from age six, with guardian requirements for younger participants. The regulations also set out medical screening, safety conditions, event insurance and arrangements for disqualifications or missed cutoffs. Runners should read these requirements before collecting a bib.
Why the event matters
The 10 km competition forms part of a Chinese Athletics Association series. In addition to the event's published race awards, the organiser has announced a pathway for leading finishers, with qualifying top-500 men's and women's net-time performances eligible for ballot-free entry consideration for the 2027 Chongqing Changjiahui Half Marathon under the stated rules. Entry selection for the October event took place earlier in 2026; check the official registration channel for any later updates. Participants travelling to Chongqing should confirm access to the Nanbin Road assembly area and distinguish the separate 5 km finish when planning transport.
