Event Detail
BRODER50 by MANTRA returns to the spectacular volcanic landscape of Mount Bromo in East Java on Saturday 21 November 2026. Originally planned for 10 October, the race was officially postponed following restrictions on organised events in Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, introduced amid conservation and wildfire concerns. This is the rescheduled 2026 edition, not a second event. Participants should reconfirm park access and any final race instructions before travelling.
The desert-running experience
Launched in 2023, BRODER is organised by MANTRA Runners and explores the Sea of Sand around Bromo. The routes move between loose volcanic sand and elevated terrain above 2,000 metres, where exposed sections can feel cold and windy before warming rapidly in the sun. This is a distinctive high-altitude trail challenge, not a conventional road marathon.
The organiser lists five categories:
- 65 km Circle of Pain: the longest ultra, with a 16-hour cut-off and five water stations; flag-off around midnight.
- 35 km The Northern Face: demanding climbing and technical terrain, eight-hour cut-off, three water stations; 07:00 start.
- 25 km Classic: six-hour cut-off, two water stations; 07:00 start.
- 15 km Explorer: four-hour cut-off, one water station; 08:00 start.
- 8 km Scenic: introductory desert trail, 2.5-hour cut-off, one water station; 08:00 start.
Official route highlights include Pasir B29, Jemplang, Gumuk Pasir, Penanjakan and Portal Ciri, depending on category. Runners should study the specific current-edition GPX and mandatory equipment information rather than treating another distance's course as interchangeable.
Practical arrangements
The updated event timetable gives race-pack collection on Thursday 19 November (12:00–18:00) and Friday 20 November (10:00–18:00), with a technical meeting on Friday at 16:00–17:00. The 65 km organiser page names Lava View Lodge Hotel for collection, while the overview still says venue to be announced; confirm the final instructions for your category. Race-day activities are listed at Padang Pasir Bromo, with an awards ceremony at 14:00.
The organiser's official postponement statement and free bib-transfer arrangements are important for runners previously entered for October. The advertised free transfer window was 4–10 October, now past; no current registration availability or fees have been verified. Entry enquiries should go through the official event channels. Because of the national park's conservation restrictions, travel and accommodation arrangements should be made with the organiser's latest advice in mind.
