Event Detail
The 17th Shonan Fujisawa Citizens Marathon 2027 takes place on Sunday 24 January 2027, with the main venue, start and finish on Enoshima Island in Fujisawa, Kanagawa Prefecture. Organised by the Shonan Fujisawa Citizens Marathon Executive Committee and Fujisawa Athletics Association, it combines a competitive, Japan Association of Athletics Federations-certified half marathon with an accessible community programme on the Shonan coast. More than 10,000 runner and family places are offered across the divisions, making this a sizeable winter road-running gathering.
Distances and course
The main event is a 21.0975 km half marathon, using two laps of the Shonan Fujisawa course. A quarter-marathon of approximately 11.2 km covers one lap. There are also approximately 1.9 km parent-and-child and challenge runs, the latter designed for pupils attending special-needs schools or classes and their parent or guardian. The half marathon has a published capacity of 6,500 runners, the quarter distance 2,000, the parent-and-child race 850 pairs, and the challenge race 50 pairs. The route follows the coastal setting around Enoshima and Shonan, with the possibility of seeing Mount Fuji in clear weather.
Race-day programme
The half marathon and quarter marathon both start at 8:30 am Japan Standard Time; the shorter family and challenge runs start at 8:45 am. The half and quarter races operate under a three-hour overall time limit and road-control checkpoints, with published half-marathon checkpoints at 13 km by 10:25 am, 18 km by 11:05 am, and 20.4 km by 11:25 am. Runners should study the organiser's 2027 course map and the final participant information rather than relying on past-edition routing.
Registration and race preparation
All categories are already fully booked. The organiser announced on 12 July 2026 that every allocation had filled and that no additional general entry was planned. Published 2027 entry fees were JPY 8,500 for the half marathon, JPY 7,000 for the quarter marathon, and JPY 6,000 per pair for the family/challenge categories; these are historical entry details, not a current invitation to register. There is no normal race-morning check-in: bibs and commemorative shirts are arranged for advance delivery or nominated pre-race collection at Sports Depo's Terrace Mall Shonan flagship store. An official commemorative finisher medal is an optional paid purchase, not an automatic inclusion.
For visitors, the island is accessible through the Enoshima/Katase-Enoshima rail area, but follow organiser road closures and arrival instructions. The January coastal morning can be cold, so arrive with warm layers and allow time to reach the Enoshima start area. With the racing programme finishing before midday, entrants and supporters can explore the island and the Shonan waterfront afterwards.
