Event Detail
The 40th Aoshima Taiheiyo Marathon 2026 is a major road-running event in Miyazaki, Japan, taking place on Sunday, 13 December 2026. The programme combines a 10,800-runner full marathon with a 1,000-runner 10K and an 800-runner Pokémon Run over 3K. The 35th Miyazaki Marathon for visually impaired runners is held concurrently, continuing the event’s long-running inclusive race programme. Competition is conducted under the 2026 Japan Association of Athletics Federations rules and the organiser identifies the event as JAAF-certified.
The marathon starts at 09:00 JST from Hinata Miyazaki Prefectural Comprehensive Sports Park. From the park, runners head into central Miyazaki, continue towards the Miyazaki Jingu turnaround, then return along the same corridor before taking in the coastal Tropical Road section and finishing back inside the sports-park precinct. The marathon has a 6 hour 20 minute limit with intermediate course checkpoints. The 3K Pokémon Run starts at 09:30 and has a 40-minute limit, while the 10K starts at 09:50 with a two-hour limit. Marathon and 10K official results use gross time, with net time also recorded as a reference; the 3K is timed on gross time.
Current organiser information plans 14 water stations and seven medical stations around the marathon course. Runners are seeded into start blocks using their declared expected performance, and bib-mounted timing is used for the timed races. The full marathon and 10K were first-come, first-served, while the 3K used a ballot. The published entry window ran from 17 June to 30 June 2026, although the marathon and 10K could close earlier once their quotas were reached; all categories are now closed.
Entry fees were JPY 13,500 for the marathon, JPY 8,000 for general 10K runners and JPY 5,000 for high-school 10K runners. The 3K cost JPY 6,000 for general entrants, JPY 3,500 for high-school runners and JPY 3,000 for primary and junior-high students. Athlete bibs and the event programme are mailed to the registered address in late November, so there is no conventional pre-race bib collection for those materials. The 2026 participant T-shirt is collected separately at the event venue: 13:00–17:00 on 12 December, or 06:30–08:15 and 10:00–16:00 on race day. An optional pre-booked baggage service was offered for JPY 700.
What's Included
Original event T-shirt; athlete bib and event programme mailed in advance in late November; finisher medal for eligible finishers except the 10K; finisher towel; optional pre-booked baggage service.
Prizes
Marathon and 10K overall awards are based on gross time and age-group awards on net time; Pokémon Run awards use gross time. Award certificates and commemorative prizes are sent after the event. The concurrently held visually impaired marathon has separate awards.
