Event Detail

The 43rd Moriya Half Marathon returns to Moriya, Ibaraki on Sunday 7 February 2027. It is a long-established regional road race centred on Moriya City Hall, with a JAAF-certified 21.0975K half marathon and 5K alongside a youth 1-mile programme. The published field is substantial for a regional event: 4,500 places in the half marathon, 600 in the 5K and 700 across the school-age 1-mile divisions.

The 5K starts at 09:25 JST and has a 38-minute limit. The half marathon follows at 10:00 with a 2 hour 30 minute limit and intermediate closures at 6.0 km, 12.8 km, 16.5 km and 19.5 km. The course is not completely flat, with moderate undulations as it moves through Moriya's urban road network. Distinctive sections include the Moriya Tunnel, normally used by motor vehicles, and the urban-axis road running alongside the Tsukuba Express. Distance markers are provided at 1 km intervals, and the half marathon has official pace groups targeting 1:30 and 2:00.

General registration is first come, first served from 21 September to 15 November 2026, with entry closing earlier if capacity is reached. Fees are JPY 6,500 for the half marathon and JPY 4,000 for the 5K. The official youth 1-mile races cost JPY 2,500 and start between 10:25 and 10:35, but ARC does not currently expose an exact 1.609K distance option, so those races are documented here rather than mapped inaccurately.

There is no conventional race-pack pickup. Bibs, the disposable timing tag, baggage label and participant gift are scheduled to be mailed in advance around mid-January. Half-marathon and 5K entrants receive an original colour event T-shirt. Finishers can download a web result certificate, and the organiser provides free post-race miso soup. Medical runners, mobile AED teams and course medical staff support the race. Free shuttle buses are planned between Moriya Station and the venue, while limited event parking is available for about 700 vehicles.
