Event Detail
The Iitoko Hakusan Asagao Marathon 2027 brings an early-spring road-running festival to Hakusan in Ishikawa Prefecture on Sunday 21 March. Despite its name, the longest race is a certified half marathon, alongside a certified 10K and shorter community events. The race began in 2025 as part of Hakusan City's twentieth-anniversary celebrations; its inaugural edition attracted more than 3,000 runners. The setting is a city within the Hakusan Tedorigawa UNESCO Global Geopark, with a relatively gentle course through the Matto district.
Course and race morning
All races use Matto General Sports Park as their hub, with the athletics stadium area as the start and finish. The half-marathon and 10K courses are certified by the Japan Association of Athletics Federations. Organiser information highlights local streets, the Hokuriku Shinkansen corridor and Train Park Hakusan, where a real Doctor Yellow inspection train is displayed. The half marathon starts at 08:15 JST, the 10K at 08:40, and the organiser's 3K Challenge and 2.4K Enjoy events at 08:50. The opening ceremony begins at 08:00.
The half marathon has a 2-hour 45-minute limit and three intermediate checkpoints: approximately 11.3 km by 09:43, 16.4 km by 10:23 and 19 km by 10:43. Its water stations are around 4.5 km, 11.3 km and 16.4 km. The 10K has a 90-minute limit, a water station around 4.5 km and a 7.5 km checkpoint closing at 09:47. The 3K and 2.4K have 30-minute and 50-minute limits respectively. Gross time determines overall rankings; net time is also recorded for reference and age-group results.
Entry and getting there
Entry is via RUNNET, subject to capacity. The half and 10K require high-school age or older entrants; the Enjoy event also accepts eligible primary-school children. The organiser lists a 3K Challenge, but runners should confirm its entry availability because the current RUNNET listing focuses on the other three courses. Bibs and timing tags are mailed in advance, so bring the issued materials rather than expecting race-day collection. Non-valuable baggage can be deposited using the supplied bag and label; keep valuables with you.
Matto Station is approximately 25 minutes' walk from the venue, and the organiser advises a free shuttle bus, with final details issued closer to race day. Parking is limited and road restrictions apply. Allow time for an early arrival, and consult the latest organiser instructions before travelling. The event's terms do not promise refunds for cancellation caused by severe weather or other circumstances beyond the organiser's control.
