Event Detail
Nago Challenge RUN 2027 is a community road-running festival in Nago, northern Okinawa, held as an alternative event to the NAGO Half Marathon. The race starts and finishes on Nago's main street near the historic Hinpun Gajumaru banyan tree, with a challenging course heading past the Orion Brewery towards Oura. The organiser highlights steep climbs and impressive views across the sea and Nago city on the approach to the finish.
Race-day programme
The event takes place on Sunday 17 January 2027, with an opening ceremony at 8:00 am Japan Standard Time. The half marathon and 10K are scheduled to start at 8:30 am, followed by the 3K at 8:45 am. The half marathon covers 21.0975 km in the 2027 edition; runners should not confuse this with the 20 km course offered at some previous editions.
The half marathon has a 3 hour 30 minute overall time limit, including an intermediate 10 km checkpoint of 1 hour 45 minutes. The 10K has a 1 hour 45 minute limit, while the 3K has a one-hour limit. These are challenging rather than flat courses, particularly over the longer distances.
Participation and eligibility
Half-marathon entrants must be at least high-school age, while the 10K accepts junior-high-school runners and older. The 3K includes individual categories as well as a parent-and-child pair category for children in Years 1 to 3 of primary school, with the adult and child starting and finishing together. A guardian's permission is required for school-age entrants. Youth pricing applies to people born on or after 2 April 2008.
Registration and access
Online entry through SportsEntry closes on 8 November 2026, or earlier if the field fills. Postal applications close 2 November 2026. Entry fees include event insurance and a participant T-shirt. The organiser says bib notifications and race information are posted approximately two weeks before the race; consult the current race guide for final collection and transport arrangements.
Temporary parking is available at Nago Fishing Port, approximately five minutes' walk from the race venue. The organiser recommends allowing plenty of time for early-morning traffic. Bag storage is a separate paid service and can be reserved for JPY 500 in advance, or purchased for JPY 1,000 on the day. Awards are planned for the top six runners in applicable categories. The event is scheduled to proceed in rain, subject to any safety decisions by the organiser.
