Event Detail
Toyama Marathon 2026 is a 13,000-runner point-to-point road marathon across Takaoka, Imizu and Toyama cities. The 42.195 km course is certified by the Japan Association of Athletics Federations and combines historic streets, Toyama Bay scenery and a demanding late-race bridge section before finishing at Fugan Canal Kansui Park.
From the start at Takaoka City Hall, runners move past Takaoka Kojo Park, the Great Buddha of Takaoka and the preserved Yamachosuji district, then pass Shin-Takaoka Station. The route then enters Imizu, where the character changes from urban streets to fishing-port and bay scenery. A defining feature is the crossing of Shinminato Bridge, with views towards Toyama Bay, the Kaiwomaru sailing ship and, in clear conditions, the Tateyama mountain range. If severe weather makes the bridge unusable, the organiser can switch to a published alternate route, which is not JAAF certified. The final section crosses the Jinzu River on Toyama Kita Bridge, passes the Toyama Prefectural Museum of Art and Design and finishes beside Fugan Canal Kansui Park.
The marathon starts at 09:00 and has an approximately seven-hour limit. Ten intermediate gates are scheduled, beginning at 9.2 km at 10:41 and ending at 41.6 km at 15:59. Electronic timing is recorded at 11 points from the start through the finish, including every 5 km and halfway.
Entries were first-come, first-served and closed by the published 30 June deadline. Runners must complete registration on 31 October at YKK AP Arena; there is no race-day registration. A documented proxy collection process is available when the runner cannot attend personally.
Baggage is transported by the organiser from the start venue to the finish area in designated bags. The wider event programme also includes an approximately 9 km wheelchair division and an approximately 4 km jogging division. Those shorter divisions are not mapped as ARC distances because the current distance registry does not expose exact 9 km or 4 km options.
