Event Detail
The World Masters Games Kansai 2027 10K Road Race brings international age-group competition to Hikone in Japan's Shiga Prefecture on Sunday 23 May 2027. The race is one of the athletics disciplines at the World Masters Games, an international multi-sport gathering for adult athletes that runs across the Kansai region from 14 to 30 May. The 10K has a published limit of 1,600 entrants, making it a focused competition rather than an unrestricted mass-participation fun run.
Course and race-day programme
The start is at Heiwado HATO Stadium, within Hikone General Sports Park. The road course is planned for Japan Association of Athletics Federations certification, but the organisers describe that approval as pending; competitors should not assume a final certified course or use older route maps. The scheduled competitive window is 8:50 am to 10:45 am Japan Standard Time. Athlete check-in is 7:00–8:20 am, followed by an opening ceremony at 8:20–8:30 am; presentations are scheduled for 10:00–11:00 am. The organisers have not listed a reserve day for severe weather.
Masters competition
Entrants must be 30 or older, born on or before 15 May 1997, and declare an expected running time when entering. Male and female divisions run in five-year age groups, starting at 30+ and continuing through 100+. The event follows World Masters Athletics competition rules and event-specific regulations. Medals are awarded to the first three athletes in each men's and women's age category. The organisers state that performances at these Games will not be officially ratified as athletics records.
Registration and practical arrangements
Games entry is charged according to residency, not nationality. The base athlete fee permits entry in up to five Games disciplines; the 10K has no separate sport surcharge. Applications use the official Games entry portal, with 28 February 2027 the advertised final date, subject to capacity and any earlier closure. Entrants should confirm available places before booking travel. An official 16-litre backpack and event cap form part of the published Games participant kit; race bibs and timing chips are distributed at the event check-in.
Access and safety
Heiwado HATO Stadium is at 3028 Matsubara-cho, Hikone. The Games guide suggests approximately five minutes by taxi from JR Hikone Station or ten minutes' driving from the Hikone interchange. With the stadium near Hikone Castle and views towards Mount Ibuki, visiting runners can combine race day with the historic lakeside city. Athletes must obey marshals, checkpoint instructions and anti-doping rules. The organisers describe accommodations for participants with disabilities, including guide runners for visually impaired athletes; wheelchair racing is not included in this event. Check the official regulations for the latest course and accessibility arrangements.
