RELEASED — NEW 2026 RACE-DAY MODEL. The New Balance SuperComp Elite v6 is the sixth generation of New Balance's carbon-plated road racing shoe, not the older Elite v5 or the separate 2026 TCS New York City Marathon special edition. New Balance Japan officially announced the v6 on 4 August 2026 and launched it there on 6 August 2026. Official product pages now list the standard v6 in the US, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan and Australia; individual sizes, preorder notices and stock can change.
Designed for fast road races from 5K to the marathon, the v6 replaces the previous midsole with lighter Infinion foam and pairs it with a redesigned, more forefoot-stiff Energy Arc carbon plate. An exceptionally thin outsole and breathable FANTOMFIT mesh help cut weight, while the sculpted platform promotes a responsive toe-off. New Balance lists the men's MRCEL598 at 198 g, the women's WRCEL91C at 154 g, and an 8 mm heel-to-toe drop. These weights are manufacturer figures for their respective sample sizes, not a unisex claim.
The main attraction is a lighter, snappier feel for efficient, neutral runners at race pace. Independent tests praise the rebound and ventilation but disagree about marathon protection; the narrow rearfoot, firm underfoot feel and high price may trouble heel strikers, runners needing stability or those wanting a daily trainer. Fit should be checked carefully. Official US regular MSRP: US$274.99.
What do people say about the New Balance SuperComp Elite v6?
Independent early tests are generally positive about its speed-focused redesign, lighter construction and energetic forefoot, but reviewers repeatedly caution that the heel can feel unstable and the cushioning is less forgiving than some marathon rivals. The shoe is better considered for key workouts and racing than everyday easy mileage. A separate RunToTheFinish hands-on review praised its smoother, less forceful race-pace feel, while noting fit and late-marathon stability concerns.
Additional independent review (17 August 2026): Jan Lau at Running Culture scored the standard Elite v6 4.5/5 after running in it. He praised the lighter, more responsive Infinion ride, comfortable heel and roomier forefoot at faster paces, but noted reduced stability at slower speeds and early outsole-edge wear. This is a German editorial test translated and paraphrased in ARC, not a customer rating.\r\n\r\nNew customer evidence (checked 27 October 2026): Four individually attributable New Balance customer submissions syndicated on REI were added alongside the four expert assessments. The selected customer scores are 4.25/5 across four reviews (5, 5, 4 and 3); these are a deliberately selected sample, not an overall rating. The 4-star reviewer praises comfort and long-run versatility but finds some rival racers faster. Another reports improved toe room and ventilation in Okinawa's humidity. A buyer describes good marathon-training comfort, while the 3-star reviewer reports outsole breakdown after four to five weeks. Two of the four submissions were marked collected as part of a promotion. REI separately displayed 4.4/5 across 70 syndicated customer reviews when checked on 27 October; that retailer figure is not an ARC rating and may change. Exact customer posting dates are not exposed by the retailer, so review records use approximate dates rather than inventing them. Original customer review page.

Review methodology and limitations: Independent expert assessments, not ARC firsthand testing; quoted reviewer scores, where available, are source-specific editorial evaluations, not an overall customer rating. Scores may be converted to /5 in individual review records, with original scales retained in attribution. No aggregate product rating or claims of independently verified stock/affiliate commission. Research updated 27 October 2026; nine authentic review records: five scored expert assessments and four scored, partly promotional, customer submissions. The selected expert mean is 4.27/5, calculated from five source-specific assessments with different methodologies, not a general product score. Reviews
“The Elite v6 felt energetic and comfortable through fast, long runs, with a natural fit and no hot spots. Its plate and Infinion foam helped me keep pace without excessive leg fatigue. I stopped short of a perfect score because runners with a slower cadence may find the plate awkwardly stiff, so it will not suit everyone equally.”
“I bought the Elite v6 and liked its snug upper, smooth transitions and springy ride even when changing pace. But part of the outsole rubber peeled away before 40 km, which disappointed me at this price. I repaired it and later completed a marathon comfortably; the durability problem and colour choices still temper my verdict.”
“The Elite v6 feels much lighter and more secure at the heel than v5. I would confidently race from 5K to half marathon in it; the foam is responsive but controlled, and the upper locks down comfortably. The narrower platform and thin forefoot rubber leave me less certain about stability and durability over longer distances.”
“After more than 40 miles, the Elite v6 is my favourite New Balance racer so far. Its lighter foam, secure airy upper and smooth, energetic ride work at both easy and fast paces. It feels marathon-capable, though the narrower heel could concern runners who need support, and the tongue needs care when putting it on.”
“Of the SuperComp Elite generations I have tried, the v6 is among the most comfortable, alongside the v4. The Infinion foam feels well cushioned yet very responsive when I increase my pace, and the upper is noticeably airy on the run. I had initially been unsure about the upper, but its ventilation won me over.”
“I raced a marathon in the Elite v6 after one short preparation run and found the ride natural, responsive and surprisingly controllable through corners. The breathable upper kept my feet comfortable and the outsole showed little wear after more than 50 km. The fit is snug and the ride less aggressive than some rivals, but it worked very well for my 3:08 marathon.”
“The Elite v6 feels extremely light, breathable and lively under the forefoot, yet the narrow heel becomes wobbly when landing further back. I miss a stronger forward rocker and find the deeply placed plate noticeable on longer efforts. It is enjoyable for efficient forefoot runners, but at this price I would choose a more stable, protective marathon racer.”
“The Infinion midsole makes the Elite v6 noticeably livelier than v5, while the light upper, roomy forefoot and cushioned heel feel comfortable at racing pace. The shoe rolls smoothly from half-marathon to marathon efforts, although the softer foam is less secure when jogging slowly, there are more explosive options for elite speeds, and early outsole wear is visible.”
“These are among the most comfortable running shoes I have worn, but the outsole has already begun breaking apart after only four to five weeks. The excellent underfoot comfort does not make up for my concern about how quickly the bottom is wearing.”
“After trying the SuperComp Elite v6 at a local running-club event, I bought a pair for my October marathon. It combines a very light feel with a springy, comfortable ride, and it has remained comfortable and performed well on my longer training runs.”
“Compared with v5, the reshaped forefoot lets my toes spread more naturally at push-off and makes changes of pace smoother. The very thin upper stays comfortable in Okinawa's humid heat, while the new foam and plate feel quick without forcing my stride. It is the natural, continuous transition that impresses me most.”
“I have used the Elite v6 two or three times weekly for long marathon-training runs and faster sessions. Its smooth ride, roomy toe box and breathable upper make it a clear improvement over v5. I do not think it feels quite as aggressive or fast as some rival carbon racers, but it is versatile and seems durable so far.”
“In speed sessions the SuperComp Elite v6 felt exceptionally light, lively and smooth, with plenty of rebound but without the forced rocker sensation of some carbon racers. I would happily consider it from 5K to the half marathon, although its narrow toe box and slight wobble at slower paces make the wide fit and a long trial run worth considering before a marathon.”
“The v6 is substantially lighter and has a secure, breathable upper, yet its narrow rearfoot and relatively exposed forefoot make it less protective and stable than I want for a marathon. Fast, efficient runners who prefer a natural roll may enjoy it, but I found stronger race-day options at this premium price.”
“A very capable marathon racer for efficient midfoot strikers: the light chassis and stiff carbon-assisted forefoot give fast, snappy transitions. However, the foam absorbs less impact than some alternatives, and rearfoot stability is weak. It is less comfortable for easy daily running than for racing.”
“The new foam makes the Elite v6 markedly lighter and more energetic than earlier versions, with excellent ventilation and reliable grip even on wet roads. It is genuinely exciting at race pace, but the narrow heel can feel unstable, and the steep price increase makes it a harder choice against rival supershoes.”
