Event Detail

The Altra King of the Hills Hong Kong Mountain Marathon 2027 is the fourth and final round of the 26th King of the Hills mountain marathon season, a long-established Hong Kong trail-running series founded in 1998. Organised by Seyon Asia Limited, this Sunday 4 April 2027 race takes place on the rugged hills and reservoir paths of Hong Kong Island, distinct from the season's earlier Sai Kung, Lantau and Tai Po rounds. The organiser reports that its 2026/27 series is accredited by ITRA and the UTMB Index. Race results can contribute to the season-long King and Queen of the Hills competition, determined from each runner's best three rounds.

Revised 2027 courses

The organiser's published 2027 v1.1 race information sheet relocates the start and finish to Tai Tam BBQ Site No. 2 because of a temporary forest-track closure near BoA Vista and another public event at Repulse Bay Beach. Both categories start at 9:30 am. The race is a steep trail challenge: the event's traditional half and full mountain marathon labels do not mean standard road half-marathon and marathon lengths.

The 19.4 km half mountain marathon gains approximately 1,083 metres and has a five-hour limit with three water points. From Tai Tam Reservoir Road, runners climb by Jardine's Lookout and Siu Ma Shan, cross Sir Cecil's Ride and Mount Parker Road, follow the trails around the Tai Tam reservoirs, then climb towards Violet Hill before returning to the race centre.

The 31.2 km full mountain marathon gains approximately 1,479 metres, allows 6½ hours and includes four water points. Its longer route extends towards Mount Parker, sections of the Wilson Trail and the Twins, then returns via the Violet Hill area. The organiser requires runners to pass Checkpoint 3 within four hours or stop racing. These figures come from the organiser's current 2027 instructions; check its updated map and GPX downloads before race day.

Getting there and preparing

Race-pack collection and baggage storage open at 8:00 am at the start/finish. The organiser lists buses 6, 41A, 63, 66 and 76, with the stop on Wong Nai Chung Gap Road outside a petrol station. Allow for approximately 1 km of uphill walking from the bus stop to the BBQ site.

Bring a filled hydration pack or bottles: refreshments are provided at course water stops for refilling, not for taking away containers. Trails can be steep, rocky and slippery after rain, and exposed sections can be hot in April. Carry a phone with Hong Kong reception and familiarise yourself with the marked route.

The organiser advertises HK$350 per individual round, with various series packages. Eligible 26th-season entrants can redeem a race T-shirt and baggage tag; category awards and season rankings apply. Check the official registration portal for any remaining places, package conditions and last-minute notices.
