Event Detail
HK100 2027 is the flagship 100 km race of the Hong Kong 100 weekend and the Hong Kong round of the World Trail Majors. First held in 2011, HK100 has grown from a locally organised ultramarathon into one of Asia's best-known trail races, while retaining a course that showcases how quickly Hong Kong changes from dense city to rugged country park.
The race starts at Pak Tam Chung in Sai Kung and heads west across the New Territories. The opening kilometres follow the MacLehose Trail beside High Island Reservoir and the Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark before the route crosses Sai Kung's beaches, coastal paths and old villages. From Pak Tam Au the course becomes progressively hillier, passing Pak Sha O, Yung Shue O and Kei Ling Ha before the long section towards Gilwell Camp. Later stages traverse behind Lion Rock, continue through Shing Mun, climb Needle Hill and Grassy Hill, and then tackle Tai Mo Shan, Hong Kong's highest peak at 957 metres. The final kilometres descend to the finish at the Rotary Club car park on Tai Mo Shan Road. The organiser lists about 5,142 metres of climbing and a 30-hour race limit.
The 2027 route includes checkpoint changes at Sai Wan Pavilion and Pak Tam Au. Runners should expect rocky, uneven and steep terrain, with some of the hardest climbing concentrated in the second half. The course is marked, but the organiser strongly recommends loading the official GPX file onto a watch because markings can occasionally be moved or obscured. Emergency first aid is available at checkpoints, while mobile coverage can be intermittent in some sections.
Entry is heavily oversubscribed and is managed primarily by ballot. The 2027 ballot results were released on 17 August 2026, with successful regular entrants required to complete registration by 23 August. Limited charity places are separately allocated first come, first served. Participants must be at least 18 and are expected to have suitable trail experience even though no qualifying race is required.
Mandatory kit includes a mobile phone, headlamp, whistle, emergency blanket, capacity for at least one litre of water, food, a rubbish bag, race bib and cash. HK100 runners may use one drop bag at CP6 Kei Ling Ha and another at the finish, deposited at the start on race morning. Because Tai Mo Shan Road is closed around the finish during the event, the organiser provides a complimentary shuttle from the finish to Tsuen Wan MTR.
