Event Detail
The Gili Backyard Ultra: The Mindloop returns on Saturday, 30 January 2027. Set on car-free Gili Trawangan off the coast of Lombok, the event combines an open-ended endurance challenge with fundraising for free mental health care in Indonesia.
The last-runner-standing format
At 5:00 am WITA, runners begin the first 6.706 km loop around Gili Trawangan. A new lap starts every hour, on the hour. Runners must finish the lap within 60 minutes and make the next start; miss the bell and the competition ends for that runner. This continues until one athlete remains. There is no fixed finish time or total distance. Beginners are welcome and even one lap counts as an official result.
What to expect
The island course features sea views and no cars, but tropical heat, humidity and possible monsoon rain make pacing, nutrition, hydration and spare footwear important. The race may continue through multiple nights. Check the organiser's final instructions for course details, crew support, equipment and on-site arrangements.
Running for mental health
Every entrant supports free mental health care provided through Bali Bersama Bisa. After registering, participants receive WhatsApp instructions to set up a personal fundraising page. The organiser specifies a fundraising goal of IDR 750,000 per runner; this must not be confused with an entry fee, which has not been confirmed publicly for 2027.
Previous edition
In 2026, Phil Gore completed 64 loops (approximately 429 km), taking the course record after Dan Camac completed 63. Those are historical 2026 results, not confirmed starters for 2027.

The race base is Pondok Santi, Gili Trawangan, North Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. Gili Trawangan can be reached by fast boat from Bali or Lombok. Although it is easily reached by fast boat from Bali, the event venue is on Gili Trawangan, North Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara.
