Event Detail

The 11th Minamiboso Michikusa Ultramarathon takes runners along the coast of Chiba Prefecture on Saturday 13 March 2027. This established, community-supported ultramarathon is about the journey rather than a podium: its 100 km and 75 km options follow the southern Boso Peninsula through Katsuura, Onjuku, Kamogawa and Minamiboso, finishing near the historic Nojimazaki Lighthouse. The organiser emphasises coastal scenery, local hospitality and generous Michikusa aid stations.

Route and race format

Both distances begin at Mikazuki Sea-Park Hotel Katsuura with staggered starts from 05:00 to 05:15 Japan time. The route uses pavements and public roads without road closures, so runners must follow traffic rules and give way to other road users. The 100 km field is capped at 200 runners and the 75 km field at 300. The overall deadline to finish is 19:15, giving a maximum of 14 hours 15 minutes. A checkpoint at Hamachaya Futomi closes 9 hours 15 minutes after the start, at approximately 65.7 km for the 100 km course and 41.5 km for the 75 km course. Organiser and RUNNET documents differ slightly on the latter distance's checkpoint measurement, so follow the final athlete briefing.

Aid, equipment and safety

The organiser lists 20 aid stations for 100 km and 16 for 75 km, featuring refreshments and regional specialities. Bring a reusable cup with an opening of at least 5 cm and a proper headlamp: both are checked at registration, and a phone torch is not accepted. There are no competitive awards. The event offers a commemorative shirt and local souvenir, with a medal and completion certificate for finishers. Event photographs are planned for later online publication.

Registration and logistics

Entries are first come, first served and close on 31 January 2027, or sooner if places fill. The 75 km entry fee is JPY 16,000; the 100 km fee is shown in its dedicated category card. Eligible cancellations requested by email by 31 January may receive a 50% refund under organiser conditions; later cancellations and organiser cancellations do not receive a refund.

Collect your bib at Mikazuki Sea-Park Hotel Katsuura on Friday 12 March from 15:00 to 18:00 or on race morning from 03:30 to 04:30. A participant notice is mailed about a week beforehand.
