Event Detail

The 24th Shinjuku City Half Marathon & Ward Residents' Health Marathon returns to central Tokyo on Sunday 31 January 2027, with MUFG Stadium (Japan National Stadium) as its main venue. Organiser material describes it as one of Shinjuku’s major participation sports events, drawing about 15,000 runners across the full programme. The headline races are a 6,500-runner half marathon and a 3,000-runner 10K, supported by shorter community events.

The half marathon starts at 08:30 JST and has a 2 hour 30 minute limit. Its World Athletics- and Japan Association of Athletics Federations-certified course starts and finishes inside MUFG Stadium, then runs through Meiji Jingu Gaien, the east side of Shinjuku Station and Kagurazaka before returning to the stadium. Current organiser information lists intermediate cut-off points at 4.0K, 6.5K, 11.7K, 13.0K, 15.6K, 16.9K, 20.0K and 20.7K. The 10K starts at 11:15, has a 90-minute limit and uses a JAAF-certified two-lap route around Meiji Jingu Gaien.

The wider programme includes 3K, 2K and 1K races, a family run, a 5.5K stadium fun run and relay, plus short stadium activities. ARC has exact reference distances for 1K, 2K, 3K, 10K and 21.1K, which are attached to this event. The organiser’s 5.5K fun run, 1.1K relay lap, 200m special run and 42.195m stadium activity are not mapped to inaccurate substitutes.

General entries are first-come, first-served and run to 20 October 2026, subject to capacity. Standard entry is JPY 13,000 for the half marathon and JPY 7,000 for the 10K, while the shorter events use separate category-based pricing. Athlete bibs and related race materials will be mailed to registered addresses by 20 January, so runners do not need a conventional pre-race expo pickup. The organiser has announced a hand-dyed original tenugui as the participant gift for all events. There is no participant parking at MUFG Stadium; the organiser asks runners to arrive by public transport.
