Event Detail

The 39th Iki Island New Year's Marathon (壱岐の島新春マラソン大会) is held on Sunday 10 January 2027 on Iki Island, Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan. The event, established in 1987, welcomes individual runners, children and families to start the new year with an island road-running festival. The start/finish is at Iki City Fureai Plaza (壱岐市ふれあい広場) near Ashibe Port, and the course winds past ocean views, Kiyoshihama Beach and the dramatic coastline towards Sakyobana. The event celebrates the island's landscape and community, with enthusiastic local support.

Distances and race times (JST, UTC+9)

  • 09:00: 800 m family race for preschool children with a parent/guardian.
  • 09:15 / 09:25 / 09:35: 1 km parent-and-child family waves for school years 1, 2 and 3 respectively.
  • 09:45: 10K race.
  • 10:00: Half marathon (21.0975 km).
  • 10:15: 5K general race.
  • 11:45 and 11:47: 1.5 km boys' and girls' races for school year 4 (not shown as a separate ARC distance filter).
  • 12:00, 12:02, 12:15 and 12:17: 2 km races for school years 5 and 6, in boys' and girls' waves.

The organiser advises that roads reopen and competition stops at 13:00 JST, giving half-marathon entrants a practical three-hour limit. Some earlier waves have separate supervision requirements. There are no race-day distance changes.

Entry prices and eligibility

The organiser's published general-admission fee is JPY 4,000 for adult races (including eligible junior high school entrants in general categories). Dedicated primary/junior-high student race categories are JPY 500, and parent-and-child family pairs are JPY 1,000 (JPY 1,500 for a parent accompanying twins). Children from middle preschool age may enter the family event; read the Japanese eligibility and guardian rules for each age group. There is also a half-marathon team category for teams of up to five runners, requiring direct application to the race office.

Registration opened 18 September 2026 and closes 15 November 2026, subject to availability and any official extension. Entries are accepted through the event-specific RUNNET page, Sports Entry and tourism office counters. The organiser does not allow refunds for withdrawal or event-category changes after payment. Please confirm remaining spaces with the booking service before committing to travel.

Race packs, timing and awards

The organiser says racing is chip-timed and that timing chips, bib numbers, event information and participation gifts are sent in advance, normally around mid-December. There is no race-day collection/registration desk, so entrants travelling to Iki from elsewhere should ensure they can receive their materials. General entrants receive a commemorative T-shirt and completion record; younger categories are advertised a towel, and family entrants a completion record. Half-marathon overall and age-category podiums, junior awards and special prizes are advertised. Bring your timing chip as instructed; omission means no official recorded result.

Travel and race-day conditions

Iki is an island between Kyushu and Tsushima, reachable by fast ferry or conventional ferry from Fukuoka/Hakata and by air from Nagasaki. The meeting point is a short distance from Ashibe Port, but confirm your particular ferry terminal and connection. Allow contingency time: the organiser noted that adverse weather in January 2026 cancelled some transport services even though the race went ahead. The marker is an approximate recreation-field location, not a surveyed start-line coordinate. Follow the organiser's latest notices for weather, ferry services and road closures.
