43rd Kahoku Shimpo Kesennuma Tsubaki Marathon 2027

The 43rd Kahoku Shimpo Kesennuma Tsubaki Marathon returns to Oshima Island in Miyagi Prefecture on Sunday 25 April 2027. This established community road race is based at Kesennuma Municipal Oshima Community Centre, with an island setting that gives visiting runners a different perspective on Japan's north-eastern coast. The programme combines a half marathon with shorter 10 km, 5 km and 3 km races for different age groups.

Course and race rules

The half marathon begins at 9:30 am, followed by 10 km at 9:40 am, 5 km at 9:50 am and 3 km at 9:55 am, all Japan Standard Time. Half-marathon runners have 2 hours 45 minutes to finish; the intermediate checkpoints require reaching 12.5 km within 1 hour 34 minutes and 16 km within 2 hours. The shorter races have no fixed published time limits, although officials may stop participants when required for safe event operations. Entry and getting to the start

Entries are scheduled to open 1 November 2026 and close 10 January 2027, potentially earlier if the limited places fill. Applications are offered through RUNNET and Sports Entry. There is no race-morning registration. Organisers say they will post participants' IC-tagged race bibs, programme and souvenir-exchange vouchers before the event. Souvenir collection is planned at the race venue from 7:30 to 9:00 am, ahead of the 8:45 am opening ceremony.

Parking on Oshima Island is limited, and traffic controls affect access around Oda Beach. Some parking areas cannot be exited between 9:00 am and 12:35 pm; a shuttle is planned from the Shishiori Community Centre parking area. Free baggage storage is available for belongings that fit in the supplied bag; do not leave valuables. Check the final access plan, race-day notices and any entry conditions directly with the organiser.
