Event Detail

ICT100, the Iwate Coastal Trail 100km, is a demanding point-to-point trail ultramarathon on Japan's Michinoku Coastal Trail. The 2027 race crosses Fudai, Tanohata, Iwaizumi and Miyako in Iwate Prefecture, following the rugged Pacific coast from Fudaihama Park Kiraumi to Jodogahama. The published course is approximately 100km with around 4,285m of cumulative ascent. Places are limited to 250 runners.

A self-supported coastal challenge

Unlike a conventional serviced ultra, ICT100 provides no organiser aid stations and no additional race-specific course markers. Entrants must follow the published GPX route with a watch or smartphone, carry their own food and water, and may buy supplies from shops or vending machines along the way. The route includes protected natural areas and paths shared with hikers. Trekking poles and headphones are prohibited; runners must respect wildlife, local residents and national-park rules.

The race starts at 13:00 Japan time on Saturday 8 May 2027, with a 24-hour limit ending at 13:00 on Sunday. The checkpoints are Omoto Fishing Port at approximately 44km (23:00 Saturday), Taro Roadside Station at approximately 75km (06:00 Sunday), and Nakanohama at approximately 88km (09:30 Sunday). The organisers plan to award the top six men and women overall at Jodogahama at 11:00 Sunday.

Preparation and race logistics

Runners must be at least 20 and have completed a trail race of 50km or longer, or qualify through the specified SEA ALPS TRAIL JOURNEY provision. Compulsory kit includes GPX navigation, the supplied GPS tracking device, two lights with spare power, waterproof jacket and trousers, insulating layers, bear bell, emergency blanket, first-aid supplies, water, food, phone and cash. Equipment checks may be made.

Registration is scheduled from 5 November 2026 at 09:00 JST until 28 February 2027 at 23:59 JST, subject to capacity. Up to two registered pacers may accompany each entrant, either for the full course or specified sections, but cannot carry supplies for the runner. Private assistance is permitted only at nine designated locations.

Check-in and bag drop take place at Kiraumi on Saturday from 11:00 to 12:30. A drop bag can be accessed at Omoto Fishing Port around 44km, then transported to the finish; other checked luggage travels directly to Jodogahama. There is no organiser shuttle between start and finish, so arrange transport independently. Limited free parking is available near the start. Paid showers and changing facilities are available at the finish on Sunday morning.

The organiser may shorten or cancel the race for dangerous weather, disasters or environmental risks, without postponement or refund. Review the official Japanese race regulations and updated route before travelling.
