Event Detail

The Kawasaki Tamagawa Marathon 2026 brings thousands of runners to the banks of the Tama River in Kawasaki, Kanagawa, on Sunday 15 November. Organised by Kawasaki City and its sporting partners, this long-running community event combines a sizeable half marathon and 10K with junior, family, paired-running and wheelchair categories. All races start and finish at Uvance Todoroki Stadium by Fujitsu, the home ground of Kawasaki Frontale.

Course and race-day experience

The main running route follows Tamagawa-sen road and the Tama River floodplain, on predominantly flat terrain. The organisers advertise pacemakers for the half marathon and 10K, making these appealing to runners chasing a personal best as well as first-time distance runners. The half marathon offers 3,500 places and a 2-hour 48-minute timing limit; the 10K offers 2,500 places and an 80-minute limit. Intermediate cut-offs apply: half marathon approximately 14K at 1:51, 17K at 2:14 and 18.5K at 2:25; 10K 3K at 25 minutes.

Programme (Japan Standard Time, Sunday 15 November)

  • 09:00: Opening ceremony.
  • 09:15: Half marathon starts.
  • 09:30: Individual 10K and 10K paired-running start.
  • 09:40: Wheelchair 1K starts (non-racing wheelchairs, including powered chairs, permitted under organiser rules; racing wheelchairs are not permitted).
  • 11:20: 3K starts (school year 5 or older).
  • 12:05 onwards: Approximately 1K family fun runs for pre-school and school-age children with a parent or guardian.
  • Around 13:30: Racing concludes. The organisers may adjust the timetable.

The paired 10K is contested by two runners together, with a combined-time result, and uses the same event distance as the individual 10K. The wheelchair 1K is free to enter and allows participants who can complete roughly 1K within 15 minutes. Junior runners and families have dedicated age-group divisions.

Participant information

Every participant is offered a 2026 commemorative event T-shirt, to be collected at the stadium. The special design celebrates Kawasaki Frontale, the Kawasaki Brave Thunders and 30 years of friendship between Kawasaki and Naha. Finishers can download an online results certificate. Placegetters in qualifying divisions receive certificates, medals or trophies under the published category rules. The stadium provides baggage storage (not for valuables) and changing areas. Start numbers and timing chips are posted to participants in early November, so no normal race-day registration is required.

The official entry deadline was 13 September 2026, after an extension from 31 August; registration is now closed. Entrants should consult the organiser's current guide for bib delivery, cut-offs and any final race-day instructions. Access by train/bus or on foot from Musashi-Nakahara or Shin-Maruko stations is recommended because event parking is limited.
