Finisher muffler towel for eligible half-marathon divisions
Event Detail
The 50th Hirakata Half Marathon marks a milestone for this long-running New Year race in Osaka on Monday 11 January 2027, Japan's Coming of Age Day holiday. Organised by the Hirakata City Sports Association, it welcomes experienced half-marathon runners, beginners, schoolchildren and families. Nearly 4,000 people participated in the previous edition.
The riverside course
All races start and finish in Yodogawa River Park, Hirakata district. The courses follow the mostly flat Yodogawa riverbank, with the longer race heading towards Kuzuha before returning. It is a good setting for a first half marathon or a personal-best attempt, although runners should prepare for potentially cold January winds on the exposed embankment. The half marathon has a three-hour limit, with three hydration stations; the 10K has one.
Race-day schedule
The ceremonial Coming-of-Age Memorial Run, approximately 300 metres, starts at 08:45 for young adults dressed for their coming-of-age celebrations. The children's 2K begins in groups from 09:00. Half-marathon runners start at 09:30 in the special class, with general waves every five minutes until 10:00. The 10K begins from 10:40, the 5K at 11:00 and the recreational 2K jog at 12:00. The special half-marathon class requires a previous performance of 1:30 or faster for men, or 1:50 for women.
Planning your visit
There is no race-day bib collection: bibs, timing chips and purchased optional participation gifts are posted to entrants around one week before the event. Changing tents and baggage storage are provided, but runners must retain their valuables. Finishers can download their certificates afterwards; post-race drinks and local Hirakata confectionery are advertised. The venue is about five minutes' walk from Keihan Hirakatakoen Station, while parking is limited.
Entry was extended to 3 November 2026 for places without the optional participation T-shirt, subject to availability. The organiser may cancel in severe weather without refunding entry fees. Check the latest organiser notice before travelling.
