Event Detail
Osaka Marathon 2027 is the 15th edition of one of Japan's largest city marathons, bringing more than 30,000 runners onto a 42.195K road course through central Osaka. The 2027 race is part of the MGC Series 2026-27 and also serves as a Japanese men's selection competition connected with the Beijing 2027 World Athletics Championships and Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
The marathon starts in front of the Osaka Prefectural Government Building and finishes inside Osaka Castle Park. The route runs through central Osaka and passes major city areas and landmarks, including the Dotonbori district, before returning to the castle precinct. The course is certified by JAAF and World Athletics/AIMS. Wave 1 starts at 09:15, with Waves 2 and 3 following sequentially, and the marathon closes at 16:15, giving a seven-hour overall race window.
General individual entry was conducted by ballot, with applications from 28 July to 28 August 2026 and results issued on 28 September. Domestic individual entry was JPY 16,000, plus a 6% administration charge and a compulsory charity contribution of at least two JPY 500 units. Overseas individual entry was USD 145 plus an 11% administration charge and at least two USD 5 charity units. Charity-runner places remain a separate route, requiring substantial additional fundraising.
Runner registration and bib collection are compulsory at INTEX Osaka Hall 6. Collection is available Friday 26 February from 11:00 to 19:00 and Saturday 27 February from 10:00 to 18:00. Photo identification is required, proxy collection is not permitted, and there is no race-day registration. Runners should therefore plan to arrive in Osaka no later than Saturday with enough time to complete the expo process.
The event has a strong charity identity alongside its elite and mass-participation racing. Race-day logistics use public transport, and runners should follow their assigned start block and final participant instructions issued by the organiser.
