Event Detail
Shizuoka Marathon 2027 is the 10th edition of Shizuoka City's flagship road marathon, held on Sunday, 14 March 2027. The full marathon is a Japan Association of Athletics Federations certified race on a World Athletics certified course, and the event is also listed in the Abbott World Marathon Majors age-group ranking programme. The 2027 marathon field has been expanded to 13,000 runners.
The marathon starts at 08:20 in front of Shizuoka City Hall and finishes at the east side of JR Shimizu Station, with a six-hour overall limit. The route is known for relatively little elevation change and moves from the city centre through varied Shizuoka scenery before reaching the coast. Runners pass areas associated with Tokugawa Ieyasu, follow sections near the Abe River, and then run beside Suruga Bay towards Shimizu. In clear weather, parts of the course offer views towards Mount Fuji, while the bay and Izu Peninsula provide much of the later-race scenery.
The wider programme also includes an 11.6K Fun Run starting at 08:45, a roughly 1.6K wheelchair event at 08:40, and a roughly 1.6K parent-and-child run at 08:50. ARC has not forced these shorter races into inaccurate distance fields because its current distance registry does not contain exact 11.6K or 1.6K options.
General marathon entry opens at 20:00 JST on 1 October 2026 and is scheduled to remain open until 23:59 on 12 November, subject to the 13,000-place capacity filling earlier. Current organiser material confirms that participant T-shirts are sent in advance, and the event's donation-entry information states that bibs and race documents begin shipping from February 2027. Runners should watch the official site for the detailed 2027 participant guide, aid-station plan, baggage instructions and race-week transport information as those operational details are released.
