Event Detail
The Tobishima Ultra Maranic 2026 is a 100 km journey through the islands of the Tobishima Kaido in Hiroshima Prefecture. Rather than a conventional race focused on rankings, this maranic invites runners to cover a demanding ultra distance while appreciating the fishing communities, bridges, citrus-growing landscapes and views across Japan's Seto Inland Sea. The route connects seven islands by seven bridges, with the historic Mitarai streetscape among the area's distinctive highlights.
Course and participation
The single 100 km course starts and finishes at Kenmin no Hama on Kamagari Island, in Kure. The organiser sets a 16-hour time limit, from the 05:00 start to the 21:00 finish on Sunday 13 December. Entry is limited to 500 participants, and the standard entry fee is ¥20,000. The organiser records individual times but does not publish conventional race placings or hold a ranking-based award ceremony; finishing within the limit is the central goal. The event also has a community-support element, with contributions directed towards play equipment for children on the islands.
Before the start
Participants can check in on Saturday 12 December, 14:00–17:30, or on race morning from 03:30 to 04:30, at Kenmin no Hama. The scheduled pre-start briefing is at 04:45. An optional, separately charged gathering is advertised for Saturday evening. The organiser's published registration deadline is 15 November 2026, subject to remaining places or any subsequent official change.
Prepare for an island ultra
Expect a long outing through local roads and settlements, with island hospitality and food available at organised aid points. Roads are not fully closed, so entrants must follow traffic regulations and give way to other road users. Mandatory equipment includes a working headlamp, rear safety light or reflector, mobile phone, personal drinking cup, suitable clothing for cold or wet conditions, and emergency essentials. Runners should consult the latest organiser instructions for the complete list, aid-station arrangements and any updates before travelling. With an early-darkness start and substantial time on foot, careful pacing, nutrition and weather preparation matter as much as speed.
Official event and entry details are available through the organiser's website and its linked RUNNET registration page.
