Japan's national 10,000-metre track title will be decided in Tokyo on Saturday 5 December 2026 at the 110th Japan Athletics Championships, 10,000m, organised by the Japan Association of Athletics Federations (JAAF). The meeting is a national-level championship, rather than an open-entry fun run or road race: qualified elite runners contest the men's and women's titles over 25 laps of the athletics track at Setagaya General Sports Ground Athletics Stadium.
Why this championship matters
The JAAF has designated this meeting as a Japanese team selection competition for both the 2027 World Athletics Championships in Beijing and the 2027 Asian Athletics Championships in Xiamen. The federation has confirmed that Setagaya will host the national 10,000m championships for the first time. With the track close to the stands, the setting is designed for spectators to follow tactical moves, pace changes and the final laps at close range. Team-selection criteria apply separately; winning does not automatically guarantee selection.
Confirmed Saturday timetable (Japan Standard Time)
- 12:40 pm: early admission for eligible RIKUJO fan-club ticket holders.
- 1:00 pm: general spectator admission.
- 2:05 pm: women's 10,000m race.
- 2:50 pm: men's 10,000m race.
The competition takes place on the athletics track, not on a 10K road course. Its two championship races belong to the same event record.
Spectator and participant planning
The stadium is at 4-6-1 Okura, Setagaya, Tokyo. Spectators can consult the official venue access information and plan public transport or local bus connections in advance. The organising federation has advertised a total of 2,400 spectator tickets, including a limited 300-person infield standing area with ordered entry. Infield access has additional restrictions, so review the ticket terms before choosing that option.
Spectator tickets are sold online through Ticket Pia; sales opened to paying RIKUJO fan-club members on 17 October, with the general-sales phase scheduled for 31 October. These are spectator tickets, not race-entry registrations. Only athletes meeting the governing body's championship eligibility and selection requirements may compete. Confirm ticket availability, final start-list announcements and any schedule changes directly with JAAF before travelling.
