Event Detail
GARMIN RUN JAPAN returns to Tokyo on Sunday 14 February 2027 for its fourth Japanese edition, organised by Garmin Japan and operated by R-bies. Part of the wider Garmin Run series staged across Asia, this year's event moves to Showa Kinen Park in Tachikawa. The park's generally flat paths provide an approachable setting for first-time racers as well as experienced runners targeting a faster time. The 2027 programme introduces a half marathon for the first time in the Japanese event's history.
Race-day programme
The Forerunner Half Marathon covers 21.0975 km, with start waves listed for 10:30am, 11:30am and 12:30pm. The organiser specifies a three-hour target limit and says finishers will be timed through completion. The Forerunner 570 10K has waves at 10:30am, 11:00am and 11:30am, with a 90-minute target limit. Pacers are planned for the half marathon. Both individual races are open to adults aged 18 or over, excluding high-school students.
A third event, Garmin EKIDEN, is a four-person team relay, with each runner completing a 5 km leg (20 km in total). Its scheduled start is 1:00pm. This is a relay rather than a standalone 5K race. The published domestic team fee is JPY 15,000, or JPY 22,500 for the international-entry allocation. The half marathon and 10K also have separate domestic and overseas entry allocations and prices.
The organiser has announced 2,500 places for the half marathon, 1,500 for the 10K and 250 four-person relay teams, with additional overseas allocations published separately. Entries are scheduled to open on 9 October 2026 and close on 18 December 2026, or earlier if capacities are reached. Registration is handled online through RUNNET. Garmin ownership is not required to participate.
On the day
Individual-race entrants receive edition-specific shirts; finishers receive medals and online certificates. Relay teams receive a commemorative towel and a special sash for passing between runners. Awards are planned for the leading man and woman in the half marathon and 10K and the leading relay team, alongside Garmin-themed spot prizes. The venue festival is expected to include guest talks, product demonstrations, partner stalls, food trucks, family activities and a bib-number prize draw.
A baggage area will be available, but valuables remain the runner's responsibility. Parking is limited, so the organiser encourages public transport. The park is accessible from Tachikawa and Nishi-Tachikawa railway stations, although the precise event entrance should be checked in the final participant guide. Detailed 2027 course maps and race-pack collection arrangements are not yet published.
