Event Detail
Tokyo Challenge Marathon 2027 is the 12th edition of this performance-focused winter road race in Adachi, Tokyo. The event is staged from Niji no Hiroba on the Arakawa riverbed and is designed for runners chasing a fast, officially recognised time. The organiser’s newer 2027 material confirms that the course has received Japan Association of Athletics Federations certification, and RUNNET also lists both the full marathon and half marathon as certified-course races.
The course uses a flat 10 km riverside loop starting and finishing in front of Niji no Hiroba. From the start area, runners travel both upstream and downstream along the Arakawa before returning through the same event hub. Marathon runners complete repeated loops plus the final measured section to reach 42.195 km, while the half marathon follows the corresponding measured configuration. Both distances use two waves: the first starts at 10:00 and the second at 10:10, with allocation based on declared or target time. The marathon limit is 4 hours 30 minutes and the half marathon limit is 2 hours 30 minutes.
The event is strongly geared towards serious recreational runners. Net time is recorded in addition to gun time, timing points are placed around the course, and paper result certificates are issued. The organiser also provides experienced pacers, four hydration points per lap, 5-ALA drinks and energy gels, changing tents, baggage storage and a heated waiting tent with light refreshments.
There is no race-day athlete check-in. Bibs and timing-chip materials are scheduled to be mailed to entrants around 14 January 2027. Marathon runners with qualifying recent certified performances may also apply to place a personal special drink at the designated station.
Niji no Hiroba is about a 15-minute walk from Kita-Senju Station and there is no event parking, so participants are asked to use public transport. Weather-related cancellation decisions are due to be posted on the official website by 05:00 on race morning.
