Event Detail
Tokyo Legacy Half Marathon 2026 is the fifth edition of Tokyo Marathon Foundation's major half marathon, created as part of the sporting legacy of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The 18,000-runner event starts and finishes inside MUFG STADIUM (Japan National Stadium) and is conducted under World Athletics and JAAF rules as a World Athletics Elite Label road race. It is also part of the Japan Premier Half Series.
The certified 21.0975 km course uses the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic marathon route. From the National Stadium, runners head through Tomihisacho and Suidobashi to Jinbocho, Kanda and Nihonbashi, turn back through central Tokyo, make a second turn near Hitotsubashigashi and return via Suidobashi and Tomihisacho to the stadium finish. This gives participants a rare road-racing route through central Tokyo with both the start and finish on one of Japan's most important athletics stages.
Race morning begins with the wheelchair half marathon at 08:00 JST. The main half marathon uses three waves at 08:05, 08:08 and 08:15, with the latter two listed as tentative. The main race has a three-hour gun-time limit, while entrants are expected to be capable of completing the course within 2 hours 40 minutes. Provisional traffic-control checkpoints close at 09:30 at 8.5 km, 09:53 at 11.5 km, 10:22 at 15.3 km and 10:50 at 19.1 km.
General entry was decided by ballot when applications exceeded capacity, with specialist routes for semi-elite, charity, disability, student and Japan Premier Half Series runners. All current entry windows are now closed.
Runner packet collection is compulsory in person at MUFG STADIUM on 16 or 17 October; race-day pickup is not available. The current runner guide requires photo identification and provides bib/timing materials plus an official baggage bag. On race morning, designated gates open at 06:30, runners must enter by 07:30 and reach their assigned start area by 07:45. After finishing, runner services include the 2026 finisher medal, participant towel and drinks, with baggage collection and changing facilities available inside the stadium.
