Event Detail

Tottori Marathon 2027 is a 42.195 km point-to-point road race in western Japan, beginning beside the Tottori Sand Dunes and finishing at Yamata Sports Park Athletics Stadium. The course is certified by the Japan Association of Athletics Federations (JAAF) and is also designated as an open marathon competition associated with the World Masters Games 2027 Kansai in Tottori Prefecture. The event began in 2008 with around 1,000 entrants and has grown into one of the prefecture's major sporting occasions. The 2027 entry allocation is advertised at 4,200 places.

Course and race-day programme

The route leaves the coastal dunes and passes the Tottori Castle ruins, historic Jinpukaku, the Manyo-no-Sato area, the Chiyo River and surrounding farmland. This is a genuine one-way journey rather than laps around a city centre. Runners can expect a mixture of coastal scenery, cultural landmarks and open rural sections; the official course map and elevation profile are worth studying for undulations and exposure to wind.

The marathon starts at 09:00 Japan Standard Time on Sunday 14 March 2027, following an 08:45 opening ceremony. The six-hour overall limit ends at 15:00. There are intermediate course checkpoints, including those near 5 km, 8.7 km, 13.4 km, 19.3 km, 24.3 km, 29.6 km, 33.4 km and 38.5 km. Runners must meet each checkpoint's closing time as well as the overall limit.

Entry and runner arrangements

Registration opens 14 October 2026 and closes 11 December 2026 at 23:59 JST, or earlier if the allocation fills. The domestic entry fee is JPY 13,000, including event insurance, plus processing fees. The organiser lists a JPY 20,000 overseas entry fee, with overseas participation arrangements available through an international registration provider. Entrants must be at least 18 on race day and should select the appropriate JAAF-registered or general category.

Domestic RUNNET entrants receive their race bib, timing chip and designated baggage bag by post, with no conventional pre-race expo or domestic check-in. The international JTB Sports Station instructions instead specify race-morning verification from 06:00 to 08:45 at the start area, using the foreign runner ID provided by email. Overseas runners should follow their own registration provider's final instructions rather than assuming domestic postal delivery applies.

Organiser shuttles are planned from JR Tottori Station and designated parking areas to the dune-side start between 06:00 and 07:30, with return transport from the finish. Baggage can be handed over at the start for transport to the stadium, excluding valuables. There is no participant parking at the start area. Aid stations are known for local hospitality, including Tottori pears, pickled scallions and rice balls alongside drinks. The organiser has announced event clothing and distinctive finisher keepsakes, including a medal made with sand from the Tottori dunes. Travellers can reach Tottori by air from Tokyo or rail from the Kansai region; staying near JR Tottori Station simplifies early shuttle access.

Race Pack Information

Domestic RUNNET entrants receive bib, chip and baggage bag by post; no domestic on-site pickup. Overseas JTB entrants must present their emailed foreign runner ID for race-morning check-in from 06:00 to 08:45 JST. Follow provider-specific final instructions.
