Event Detail
Borneo Half Marathon 2027 returns to central Kota Kinabalu on Sunday 31 January as part of the city's annual City Day celebrations. First staged in 2020, the event is organised by Kinabalu Running Club together with Kota Kinabalu City Hall. The organiser describes both the Borneo Half Marathon and its larger Borneo International Marathon as AIMS-sanctioned races, giving this January fixture an established place in Sabah's road-running calendar.
The event starts and finishes at Padang Merdeka on Jalan Padang, close to the heart of Kota Kinabalu. The headline 21 KM half marathon follows a coastal city route designed to showcase the waterfront and central landmarks, while a companion 10.5 KM race uses a shorter city-centre circuit. The half marathon starts at 4:30 am and has a 3 hour 30 minute limit, closing at 8:00 am. The 10.5 KM starts at 5:30 am with a two-hour limit. Both races use chip timing.
Entry opened on 15 August 2026 and is scheduled to close on 30 November, or earlier if capacity is reached. The current Steady Bird pricing phase runs through 14 October, followed by the final Angry Bird phase from 15 October to 30 November. The half marathon is divided into Open, Junior Veteran, Veteran and Senior Veteran age groups, with the organiser publishing cash awards for the top five in each category.
Race pack collection is scheduled for 29 and 30 January from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm as part of the Sports Expo. The collection venue has not yet been announced, and there is no race-day collection. Runners should bring their registration confirmation or QR code and valid photo identification.
All participants receive an event tee, bib, goodie bag and timing chip. Half-marathon runners who finish within the cut-off receive a finisher medal and finisher tee, with online certificates available to official finishers. The event is also part of Kinabalu Running Club's broader community and charity programme, which uses running events to support local organisations and promote participation across Sabah.
