Event Detail
Sarawak Energy Marathon returns to Kuching on Sunday, 8 August 2027, as confirmed by the organiser's official website and the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS). This established Sarawak community running festival evolved from the Sarawak Energy Isthmus Run, launched in 2013, and now attracts runners from across Malaysia and overseas.
The route and race experience
The 2026 edition started in the Kuching Isthmus and showcased city sights such as the Sarawak Waterfront, Darul Hana Bridge, Sarawak State Legislative Assembly Building, Borneo Cultures Museum and Kuching's iconic cat statue. Those landmarks describe the previous edition, not a confirmed 2027 course. The 2027 event hub, route, road closures, transport arrangements and flag-off instructions await a current-edition announcement.
The 2026 programme included a 42.195 km full marathon, 21.1 km half marathon, 10 km competitive run and 5 km fun run. These shorter race categories are not yet confirmed for 2027; the 2027 listing currently includes only the confirmed marathon-distance format pending official updates. Likewise, do not assume that 2026 prices, cut-offs, age requirements or start times carry forward to the new edition.
Community purpose and preparation
Sarawak Energy uses this flagship race to promote healthy lifestyles and support local communities. In 2026 it announced that all registration proceeds from that edition would support selected charitable organisations; the 2025 event had raised RM360,000 benefiting 12 local organisations. Charity partners and fundraising arrangements for 2027 still require confirmation.
Registration opening, entry prices, bib collection, race-pack entitlements, course map, final venue and flag-off times for 2027 remain unverified. The midnight calendar value is a date-only placeholder, not an announced start time. The map marker is at Menara Sarawak Energy in the Isthmus, the historical event base, not an independently verified 2027 start line. Verify all practical arrangements directly with the organiser before booking travel.
