A flexible bottle for running
The Salomon Soft Flask 500ml/17oz 42 adds a running-specific soft bottle to the hydration range. Salomon's Malaysian store identifies a 500ml capacity, 42mm cap and high-flow valve. The flexible body shrinks as liquid is consumed, which Salomon describes as limiting water bounce. The representative photographed model is Clear Blue, reference LC1916000.
Pick the right flask
The standard 42 is distinct from Salomon's Speed 42, Ultra 42, straw-equipped and smaller-opening versions. Similar capacity does not make those designs interchangeable. Salomon states compatibility with its caps using a 42mm opening; that does not establish compatibility with every third-party lid, filter or vest.
If you are buying a replacement for a hydration vest, first check what the vest originally supplied and how its pockets hold the flask. A nominal 500ml capacity alone does not establish the same shape, length or seating.
Who should consider it?
Consider a soft flask if you prefer carrying liquid in a running vest or suitable belt and want the container to become smaller as you drink. It can also serve as a replacement or spare for a compatible setup. Check whether your vest purchase already includes flasks before ordering additional ones.
Try the filled flask in the exact pocket you will use. Jog, lean forward and check retention, access to the valve and comfort. A flexible bottle can still feel awkward in a pocket that does not suit its shape. Practise opening and closing the cap before relying on quick aid-station refills.
Care and route planning
Follow the manufacturer's cleaning, temperature and liquid-use instructions for the supplied item. Rinse and dry the flask after use, inspect the cap and valve and check for leaks before a long outing. If carrying drink fuel, also follow that product's preparation directions.
Choose how much to carry based on your route and refill opportunities; this product guide does not set a universal fluid target for hot Asian conditions.
