Event Detail
The 2026 Macao International Marathon is the 45th edition of one of Macao's longest-running road races. First held in 1981, the event has been recognised by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races since 1990. The 2026 programme offers 12,000 places across the marathon, half marathon and Mini Marathon, continuing a race history that has made the event a regular fixture on the city's sporting calendar.
Race morning is centred on the Olympic Sports Centre Stadium in Taipa. The marathon and half marathon begin at 06:00 local time, followed by the Mini Marathon at 06:20. The full marathon has a six-hour time limit, the half marathon three hours, and the Mini Marathon one hour and 15 minutes. Electronic timing is used, with both gun and net times recorded.
The current marathon and half-marathon routes include several of Macao's best-known landmarks. Organiser material confirms that runners cross the Governor Nobre de Carvalho Bridge, pass the World Heritage-listed A-Ma Temple and continue along the Sai Van Bridge. The route combines dense urban sections with Macao's distinctive sea-crossing bridges, giving the longer races a strong sense of place rather than a generic city-loop format.
Course support includes kilometre markers, first-aid stations, mobile toilets, a drinks station within the opening 5 km, then water, sports drink and sponge points at roughly 2.5 km intervals. Shower facilities are provided at one point on the Macao Peninsula and another in Cotai. Finish-area support includes water, sports drink, bananas and chocolate, while baggage storage, changing areas and toilets are also available.
Registration is online and first-come, first-served until each quota is filled. Marathon and half-marathon entry opens at 09:00 on 3 October 2026, with Mini Marathon entry opening at 09:00 on 4 October. Race bib and timing-chip collection takes place at Broadway Macau from 2 to 5 December, and participants must present their registration receipt and identification. The organiser also publishes weather-safety rules covering typhoon and rainstorm warnings on race morning.
