Event Detail

The 2026 Optics Valley Marathon is a major Wuhan road race and part of the wider Wuhan Marathon series. The Chinese Athletics Association has certified the event as a Class A race, and the 2026 edition will bring 16,000 runners to Wuhan's East Lake High-tech Development Zone, with 10,000 places in the marathon and 6,000 in the half marathon.

Both races start together at 08:00 on Sunday, 15 November from the South Gate area of Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Runners are asked to reach their assigned assembly area at least 40 minutes before the start. The marathon has a six-hour limit, closing at 14:00, while the half marathon has a three-hour limit, closing at 11:00. Intermediate cut-off points are used so roads can reopen progressively.

The route heads east through Optics Valley, combining the district's technology precincts with green urban corridors. Published course highlights include Optics Valley Square, the Optics Valley Skyrail, the Science and Technology Innovation Corridor, Erfei Mountain flower fields and the Optics Valley Central Ecological Corridor. The marathon continues to Wuhan Future City, while the half marathon finishes at the Central Ecological Corridor LOGO Square.

The event has a strong link with the spring Wuhan Marathon. After the 2026 race, 100 marathon finishers and 100 half-marathon finishers will be selected by draw for direct entry to the corresponding 2027 Wuhan Marathon races. The university challenge also acts as a lead-in to the 2027 Wuhan Marathon university competition, with the top five universities earning qualification. A new corporate team challenge has been added for 2026, limited to 38 teams from East Lake High-tech Development Zone companies.

Public pre-registration ran from 3 to 10 September and both race categories were oversubscribed. The first lottery results were released on 22 September, followed by a second-round draw on 28 September for remaining places, with the final payment window ending on 30 September. Runners should continue to monitor organiser notices for race-pack collection and final race-week logistics as they are released.
