NRNG Big Rock Mountain Trail Hong Kong 2026

The NRNG Big Rock Mountain Trail (巨石越野賽) returns to Hong Kong on Sunday, 6 December 2026, with two trail races that weave through old village paths, woodland and the MacLehose and Wilson trails. Its name celebrates Amah Rock (望夫石), the distinctive boulder above Sha Tin resembling a woman carrying a baby. Both courses begin and finish beside Kowloon Reservoir on Tai Po Road, with an official 09:00 Hong Kong time start.

Course distances and cut-offs

• 16 km: approximately 593 m ascent / 589 m descent, with a 4-hour finishing limit. The route includes Wilson Trail sections 6 and 5, Hung Mui Kuk Nature Trail, Sze Hung Ancient Trail, Amah Rock, Kowloon Pass, MacLehose Trail section 5, Beacon Hill and Eagle's Nest Nature Trail.
• 28 km: approximately 1,224 m ascent / 1,221 m descent, with a 7-hour 30-minute limit. It adds the Sha Tin Pass and Tsz Sha Ancient Trail sector, Shui Chuen Au and Qianlong Ancient Trail before joining the mountain paths around Beacon Hill.

The organiser publishes separate official course maps, elevation profiles, checkpoint timetables and GPX tracks on its current-edition race page. Follow the checkpoints and instructions for your entered distance; the two courses do not have the same cut-off.

Entry divisions and pricing

Both distances offer men's and women's individual categories for 39 and under, 40-49, and 50 and over. The early-bird period 9 July to 2 August 2026 has passed. Advertised subsequent entry fees are HKD 490 (16 km) and HKD 590 (28 km). Check the live organiser booking form for remaining places: an active booking link does not guarantee either distance is still available. No definitive overall registration closing date is stated on the official race page.

ARC distance-filter note: The event is 16 km and 28 km, not a 15 km or 30 km race. ARC currently has no exact distance tags for either category, so the real distances are stated here rather than assigning misleading searchable tags.

Bib collection and race-day arrangements

The organiser lists Hillmalaya, Flat B, 3/F, Good Luck Industrial Building, 105 How Ming Street, Kwun Tong, for race-pack collection. Proposed collection sessions are Friday 27 November, 12:00-19:00, and Saturday 28 November, 12:00-18:00, but both are explicitly marked TBC. Confirm the final hours before travelling. Free bag drop is advertised at the race start.

Eligible finishers are offered a finisher medal, electronic certificate and a choice of one finisher gift, from a slogan sacoche, brimmed hat or Oleno running socks. The event pack includes a bib, Japanese-designed race T-shirt, Red Bull and a one-year NRNG Club membership with a retail discount. A canvas tote is limited to the first 100 registrants, so it is not guaranteed for later entrants.

Awards and series benefits

The organiser advertises trophies and Hillmalaya/NRNG Club sponsor prizes for the top three in each age category, with fewer awards where a category has too few competitors. NRNG also runs a separate multi-race loyalty promotion for entrants in four or more of its eight events; the gift-redemption dates are not the entry deadline for this race.
