Event Detail
The Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon Youth Run returns on Saturday 16 January 2027, bringing an approximately 2 km running experience to young people at Kai Tak Sports Park in Kowloon. The second edition expands to 3,000 entrants, creating a friendly entry point to Hong Kong's largest annual road-running festival. It takes place the day before the marathon, half marathon and 10K main races.
Kai Tak course and start waves
The organiser confirms that the race starts and finishes at Kai Tak Youth Sports Ground. Route verification note (23 October 2026): the course-map link on the organiser's 2027 Youth Run page currently opens a JPG marked 2026 (SCHKM2026_Youth_Run_Map_FINAL.jpg), so the exact 2027 course alignment is not yet independently verified. Families should check for a newly issued 2027 map before relying on any turn-by-turn route. Four advertised starting waves depart at 10:00, 10:20, 10:40 and 11:00 (Hong Kong time). Each runner must start in their allocated wave and finish within the 30-minute course limit to qualify for a finisher medal and electronic certificate. Timing chips are provided, are valid only for this race and do not need to be returned.
Age eligibility and entries
The race is exclusively for participants aged 10–15 in the 2027 calendar year, which the organiser defines as birth years 2012–2017. Parents or guardians must complete the required health declaration and consent. Entry costs HKD 200. Registration opened at 12:00 on 20 October 2026 and closes at 23:59 on 27 November 2026, unless the 3,000 available places fill earlier. Entries are first-come-first-served. Young participants may register for either the Youth Run or the separate 5km Harbourfront Run on the same day, not both.
Race-day arrangements
Registered participants choose a race T-shirt size during entry, subject to remaining stock. Those finishing the allotted course on time receive a finisher medal and e-certificate. Runner-pack collection is scheduled for 13–16 January 2027 at Kai Tak Sports Park, with precise times to be confirmed. The organiser expects to issue a collection email containing the entrant's bib details and a QR code from late December 2026. Families should check the official 2027 instructions and updated course information before heading to Kai Tak. The Saturday Youth Run is a separate event from the Sunday 17 January marathon programme.
Medical withdrawals, cancellations and weather
Registration is generally non-refundable and non-transferable. The organiser permits medical withdrawal requests supported by an appropriate medical certificate, submitted by email to entry_hkmarathon@hkaaa.com no later than 15 January 2027 at 23:00 Hong Kong time; an HKD 100 administration fee is deducted from an approved refund. Under the published cancellation policy, cancellation on or before 2 January 2027 may result in a refund of up to 50% of the entry fee, while cancellation on or after 3 January carries no refund. These terms are subject to the official rules. The Youth Run will be cancelled if, from 06:00 on race day, the Hong Kong Observatory hoists tropical cyclone warning signal 3 or higher, or a red or black rainstorm warning. Families should check announcements before travelling to Kai Tak. For entry questions, the Marathon Registration and Runners' Communication Office can be reached on +852 2577 0800 (weekday office hours and Saturday mornings).
