Event Detail

The 18th Tokyo Akabane Half Marathon returns to the Arakawa riverbank in Kita Ward, Tokyo, on Sunday 17 January 2027. Known in Japanese as 第18回東京・赤羽ハーフマラソン and sponsored as the Comodi Iida Cup, this established winter road-running meeting is organised by the Tokyo Akabane Half Marathon Executive Committee and the Kita Ward Athletics Association. Its programme combines a certified half marathon and 10K with shorter community races.

Course and race format

The half marathon and 10K use Japan Association of Athletics Federations-certified out-and-back routes along the Arakawa riverbank. The course is predominantly flat with relatively few turns, making it attractive to runners chasing consistent splits or a personal best. The 3K and 2K events are not certified. The organisers may adjust turnaround points, toilets or drink stations if nearby construction affects the riverbank.

The 10K starts at 09:20 Japan Standard Time, followed by the 2K at 09:25, the half marathon from 10:50 in staggered waves, and the 3K at 11:10. Half-marathon waves are planned at intervals of three to ten minutes, depending on entries. The half marathon has a three-hour overall limit and a checkpoint at 16.6K, which must be reached within two hours and 20 minutes of the relevant final-wave reference time. The 10K has a 70-minute limit.

Entries and race-day arrangements

Online entries are handled through RUNNET, with a published deadline of 23 November 2026, or earlier if the field reaches capacity. Runners must register for the correct age or competition division. The organiser offers individual age-group divisions, university and school competition, and half-marathon team categories. General half-marathon participants must be at least 18 and not high-school students; separate youth divisions are available at shorter distances.

Race instructions, bib numbers and timing chips are sent to entrants in early January, so there is no standard race-morning registration. Chip timing is used and downloadable finisher certificates replace printed certificates. Original event merchandise is provided as a participation gift. Awards cover leading finishers in the published individual and team divisions.

Getting there

The venue is beside Shin-Arakawa Ohashi Municipal Baseball Field on the riverbank in Akabane. Akabane-Iwabuchi Station is about seven minutes away on foot; JR Akabane Station is approximately 15 minutes away. The organiser asks participants to use public transport because there is no event parking nearby. Check the final race instructions for wave allocation, course changes and weather-related notices.
