Event Detail

The 27th Goto Tsubaki (Camellia) Marathon takes place on Sunday 28 February 2027 on Fukue Island in the Goto archipelago, Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan. Based at Michi-no-Eki Kentoshi Furusato-kan in Miiraku, this established destination road race offers an alternative to Japan's large urban marathons. Goto City supports the event, which brings runners to the island's coastal and rural roads.

The programme comprises a full marathon, a half marathon and a four-person relay covering the marathon distance. The full marathon and relay start at 09:00 Japan Standard Time, followed by the half marathon at 11:00. The relay is divided into four legs of approximately 9.4 km, 11.5 km, 13.1 km and 8.2 km. The organiser provides course diagrams and elevation information; the island routes include substantial undulations, so runners should not expect a completely flat course.

The full marathon and relay have a seven-hour time limit, and entrants must pass the approximately 21 km checkpoint by 12:00. Half-marathon entrants have five hours, with the race venue closing at 16:00. The event's start and finish are both at Kentoshi Furusato-kan.

Runners can collect their bibs and participation items on Saturday 27 February between 10:30 and 18:00 at Fukue Port Terminal, second floor. Race-day check-in begins at 07:00 at Kentoshi Furusato-kan. The organiser lists an event T-shirt for participants and a commemorative towel for those finishing within the official time limit.

The published entry fees are JPY 6,000 for the full marathon, JPY 5,000 for the half marathon and JPY 14,000 for a four-person relay team. The listed application deadline is 4 January 2027, although runners should check the applicable registration channel for its latest status and requirements.

Travelling runners should plan around island ferry or jetfoil connections to Fukue and allow sufficient time to reach Miiraku for bib collection and the early start. Weather can affect sea transport, so checking current services and arranging accommodation in advance is advisable.
