Event Detail

Mt. Fuji International Marathon 2026 is the 15th edition under the event’s current identity and traces its roots to the long-running Kawaguchiko Marathon, first staged in 1976. Set in Fujikawaguchiko at the foot of Japan’s most famous mountain, the event is built around Lake Kawaguchiko and Lake Saiko, with repeated views of the Mount Fuji World Cultural Heritage landscape. The organiser has expanded the 2026 programme into a two-day marathon weekend.

Saturday, 12 December opens with the new Fuji View Run, with the 8 km race starting at 08:30 and the 4 km race at 08:40 from Funatsuhama Hirahama Parking Lot. A non-competitive Fuji View Walk follows later in the day. Sunday’s programme is led by the JAAF-certified 42.195 km marathon at 09:00, followed by the 10.5 km Charity Fun Run from Oike Park at 09:20 and the 17 km Around KAWAGUCHIKO race at 10:30.

The full marathon uses the certified Kawaguchiko-Saiko loop and has a six-hour gross-time limit. The lakeside sections are generally flat, but the organiser specifically warns of a significant hill. Intermediate cut-offs are enforced, including 20.5 km by 12:03, 30.3 km by 13:24 and 37.7 km by 14:24, with the finish closing at 15:00. Aid stations and emergency medical staff are positioned along the route.

International General Entry for all race categories reached capacity and was sold out by 1 June 2026, with no waitlist announced. International entrants have bib-collection options in Tokyo before race weekend and at the Fujikawaguchiko venue before or on race day; final collection instructions should be checked before travel. The main venue also provides baggage facilities and changing areas, while parking requires advance reservation.

The marathon is part of the Marathon Challenge Cup and is listed as a qualifying event for the Abbott World Marathon Majors age-group rankings. Full-marathon finishers receive a Mount Fuji-themed medal and finisher towel. The event also has a conservation focus: JPY 223 from each Charity Fun Run entry is donated to the Mount Fuji World Cultural Heritage Preservation Promotion Fund.

International entrants can collect bibs at Alpen TOKYO (Shinjuku) from 7-11 December, at the main Fujikawaguchiko venue on 12 December, or at the venue on race morning 13 December. Check the official participant guide for final daily hours.
