Event Detail

Niigata Half Marathon 2027 brings up to 3,500 runners to Niigata City on Sunday 14 March for a single, officially measured 21.0975 km road race. Organised by the Niigata Athletics Association, the event uses a World Athletics-certified and Japan Association of Athletics Federations-approved course. It begins in Niigata Prefectural Sports Park at 09:00 and finishes inside Denka Big Swan Stadium, giving participants a stadium finish after running through the city's urban and suburban streets. The organisers promote its generally flat profile for runners aiming at a personal best as well as those attempting their first half marathon.

Course and race-day rules

The published 2027 course map heads through the Konan area, with landmarks including Aeon Mall Niigata Minami, Maihira Park and Sonogi Junior High School before returning towards the stadium complex. The course has six published checkpoints, including 5.5 km by 09:51, 11 km by 10:35, 14.8 km by 11:10 and 19.1 km by 11:45. Runners must finish by 12:00, three hours after the gun. Officials may withdraw competitors who miss a checkpoint or cannot reasonably reach the next one in time. Chip timing is used, and only the registered entrant may wear a bib.

Entry and preparation

Entrants must be at least 18 on race day and capable of finishing within the limit. Registration is first come, first served and may close before the published deadline when the 3,500 places are filled. RUNNET applications run from 19 October 2026 at 10:00 until 11 January 2027 at 23:59 Japan time. A separate in-person entry-card method is advertised until 18 January. The standard entry fee is JPY 7,700; RUNNET also charges a 6% processing fee. An optional original event shirt can be purchased during entry.

Race packs, finish and travel

The organiser plans to post race bibs, timing chips, participant instructions, selected gifts and an official baggage bag to runners in early March, rather than hold a conventional bib-collection expo. Participants choose a running cap, arm warmers or a charity entry without a gift. Finishers are offered a commemorative towel and a Niigata Half Marathon rice ball. The organiser also advertises complimentary access to participating Niigata public baths on presentation of a race bib.

Baggage deposit is restricted to the supplied bag; valuables remain the runner's responsibility. Extra buses are planned on the Sports Park route from Niigata Station, but there is no dedicated shuttle service. Around 2,000 paid parking places can be reserved during entry for JPY 1,100. The event awards the leading eight men and women overall and in the published age divisions.

Race Pack Information

No in-person race-pack pickup is planned. The organiser will post bibs, timing chips, participant instructions, selected gifts and an official baggage bag to registered addresses in early March 2027. Bring the issued bib and chip on race day.
