Event Detail
Tokyo New Year Half Marathon 2027 takes place on Sunday, 10 January at Shin-Arakawa Ohashi Baseball Field on the Arakawa riverbed in Kita Ward. The 27th edition is a substantial Tokyo road-running meeting: the formal race caps include 6,000 half-marathon places, 1,500 for the 10K and 200 two-person teams for the 2K Pair Run. The half marathon and 10K are Japan Association of Athletics Federations-certified races, and the course is World Athletics certified and eligible for World Ranking performances.
The half marathon uses five waves at 09:30, 09:40, 09:50, 10:00 and 10:10. Runners have 2 hours 30 minutes to finish, with an 11:25 cut-off at the turnaround. The 10K starts at 13:00 with an 80-minute limit, while the 2K Pair Run starts at 14:50 and closes at 15:10. The course begins at Shin-Arakawa Ohashi Baseball Field and heads upstream along the Arakawa. It is notably flat and suited to fast running, although the organiser notes that riverbank construction can force course changes. Five aid points are planned on the half at approximately 4.5, 8.5, 12.5, 16.5 and 18.5 km; the 10K has one near its turnaround.
General domestic entry closes on 31 October 2026 unless capacity is reached first. Standard domestic fees are JPY 7,600 for the half, JPY 5,500 for the 10K and JPY 3,000 per pair for the 2K event. Premium half and 10K entries add a heated waiting room, dedicated toilets, changing and baggage facilities, food and drinks, and a stretching area. Overseas applicants can enter through the organiser's English pathways, where current JTB Sports Station fees differ from the domestic entry route.
Domestic participants receive athlete bibs, timing tags and baggage materials by post in early to mid-December, with no race-day check-in. JTB's current foreign-entry instructions instead specify in-person collection on Saturday, 9 January from 10:00 to 17:00 at the race venue, with no proxy pickup. Half-marathon finishers receive an original towel, medal, lunch pack and drink; 10K and 2K finishers receive distance-specific towel and refreshment benefits, and all races receive a web finisher certificate. Awards extend through sixth place in the published divisions. Three half-marathon participants will also be drawn for entry rights to Tokyo Marathon 2028. The venue is around seven minutes on foot from Akabane-Iwabuchi Station, and runners are encouraged to use public transport.
