2026 Results & Race Recap
Perlis International Marathon 2026 took place on Saturday 25 April 2026 at Stadium Tuanku Syed Putra in Kangar, marking the event's return after its pre-pandemic editions. Contemporary reporting from Suara Merdeka described approximately 7,000 participants from Malaysia and overseas across 42K, 21K, 10K and 5K distances. This is a reported overall participation figure, not a 42K finisher total.
Marathon and half-marathon performances
A regional athletics results compilation published the following notable 2026 performances:
Women's marathon: Ruth Waithira Karanja (Kenya) — 3:03:03.
Women's marathon second recorded performance: Chew Jia Qi (Malaysia) — 3:18:57.
Women's marathon third recorded performance: Lee Siok Chin (Malaysia) — 3:23:53.
Men's half-marathon leading listed performance: Joseph Mwangi Ngare (Kenya) — 1:12:48.
Men's half-marathon next performances: Sanjay Manimaran (Malaysia) — 1:12:58, and Willy Koech (Kenya) — 1:13:41.
Women's half-marathon leading listed performance: Ong Ee Ling (Malaysia) — 1:35:26.
The compilation mentions a Kenyan men's marathon winner in 2:43:16, but does not give a clearly attributable name. ARC does not invent one. The compilation is a regional results summary rather than a comprehensive official timing database, so category-specific awards should be checked separately.
Royal attendance and local recognition
Perlis royal authorities documented the race prize ceremony, attended by Raja Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail at Stadium Tuanku Syed Putra. The event formed part of the royal birthday celebrations and the state's sports-tourism programme. An official Kuantan City Council report recorded five MBK Runners participating, including Nor Mahizatul Aziera Ramlan, third in the women's open category reported there, and Mohd Khairul Anuar, fourth in men's veteran. These local age or division awards should not be confused with the overall elite rankings.
Participation figures: why accounts differ
Suara Merdeka reported around 7,000 runners, while a Kuantan City Council article referred to 2,217 participants. These counts may cover different reporting scopes or categories; ARC presents them as source-specific figures, rather than pretending they are identical definitions.
