Event Detail
The Long Dike New Year Sunrise Marathon returns to Taipei for its 14th edition on Friday, 1 January 2027. The established New Year's Day event is based at Machangding Memorial Park in Wanhua District and offers a full marathon, half marathon, 10K and 5K, giving runners four standard road-race options for the first morning of the year.
The published course format uses Taipei's riverside cycling paths and is described as an out-and-back route without major elevation changes. That makes the race notably different from hillier destination events: the emphasis is on steady running beside the river and the tradition of opening the new year with a marathon gathering. The full event programme runs from early morning into the afternoon, with the main race start listed at 07:00 local time.
The 2027 edition also continues several community traditions around the race. The organiser has announced a hand-in-hand finish award for couples, partners or friends who enter together and cross the finish holding hands. Runners planning to make this event their 100th, 200th, 300th or another hundred-marathon milestone can apply in advance for a commemorative trophy. Group entrants can also apply for a team rest tent, while volunteer race photographers are being invited to register for event accreditation.
Registration opened on 28 August 2026 and is scheduled to close on 2 November 2026. Current sources confirm the four race distances and Machangding Memorial Park venue, while detailed 2027 distance-specific fees, race-pack collection arrangements, prizes and participant entitlements were not safely available in the current source material reviewed and have therefore not been carried forward from older editions.
