Event Detail
The 10th CMU Chiang Mai Marathon takes place at Chiang Mai University on Sunday 8 November 2026. This tenth-anniversary event is organised by the university and its alumni association under the theme The Forward Stride. The organisers expect up to 7,000 onsite runners. Proceeds after event costs support student scholarships, university residential facilities, alumni community activities and other charitable projects.
The onsite programme has four distances: a full marathon of 42.195 kilometres, a half marathon of 21.1 kilometres, a mini marathon of 10.5 kilometres and a 5.5-kilometre fun run. The marathon starts at 03:00, the half marathon at 04:15, the mini marathon at 05:30 and the fun run at 06:00, all in Thailand local time. Baggage service begins at 02:00 and the official programme concludes at 11:30. Runners should plan their transport and arrival around these early start times.
Sala Angkaew, at Chiang Mai University beside the Ang Kaew reservoir, is the race-day assembly area. The organiser has published separate course maps for all four onsite distances. The longer courses extend beyond the campus into the surrounding Chiang Mai area, while shorter races focus on roads around the university. The marathon map includes an elevation profile. Participants should consult their own category's official route graphic before travelling.
Published onsite fees are THB 1,100 for the marathon, THB 950 for the half marathon, THB 700 for the mini marathon and THB 600 for the fun run. A VIP entry costs THB 2,000. General onsite registration closed on 17 August 2026, while VIP and virtual entries closed on 31 August. The registration website currently indicates entries are closed.
Race-pack collection is scheduled for Saturday 7 November, from 09:00 until 20:00 at Sala Angkaew. Participants receive their race materials there and should bring identity and registration evidence. The organiser allows authorised collection by another person when the specified documents are supplied. Race-day services include baggage handling and event medical assistance. Published participant entitlements include a running shirt, finisher medal, food, electronic certificate and finisher shirt where applicable.
The event also includes competitive age groups, trophies and prizes. A separate virtual-running programme offers several distances, including a 123-kilometre Iron Heart challenge, and is part of the same 2026 event rather than a separate onsite race. Runners should check official organiser updates for final participant instructions, traffic arrangements and any changes to the schedule.
