The KIPRUN Kipstorm Lab is a specialist carbon-plated road racing shoe built for fast efforts, particularly shorter road races and demanding speed sessions. It is a distinct competition-focused design rather than a comfortable everyday mileage trainer. KIPRUN previously referred to this model as the KD900X LAB, so the two names should not be treated as separate shoe generations.
A J-shaped carbon plate works with a Featherbounce PEBA foam core, while the surrounding Fluid Foaming TPU structure is intended to provide a supportive, secure platform. The manufacturer lists a 4 mm heel-to-toe drop and a reference weight of approximately 5.9 oz (167 g) in men's US size 9. Its race-tuned geometry is designed to encourage quick transitions through the stride.
The low weight, propulsive construction and road-race focus are its main attractions. Limitations include the premium price, a specialised ride that may feel less forgiving at relaxed paces, and an outsole intended for paved surfaces rather than technical trails. Carbon-plated shoes can fit and feel quite differently from daily trainers. Confirm your race-day size, practise in the shoe before an important event, and check return conditions.
Price guide checked 21 October 2026: US$350 official KIPRUN US listed price per pair; other markets may differ.
