Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer (Gen 2): smart glasses for active days
The second-generation Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer combines a recognisable sunglasses frame with hands-free photography, 3K Ultra HD video, open-ear audio and supported Meta AI functions. Rather than adding a screen in front of your eyes, it lets you record a first-person view, listen to music, take calls and use voice assistance through your glasses.
What stands out
- Hands-free capture: record a quick running-route clip or travel moment without holding a phone. Meta advertises 3K Ultra HD video, including ultrawide HDR recording at up to 60 frames per second under supported settings.
- Longer battery life: Meta quotes up to eight hours of typical use per charge, plus up to 48 additional hours from the charging case. Its published fast-charge claim is up to 50% in 20 minutes.
- Open-ear speakers: hear music and calls without putting earbuds inside your ears; be considerate of nearby people and stay alert on roads and trails.
- Wayfarer styling: different frame and lens combinations let buyers prioritise clear, sun or prescription-ready options, subject to local availability.
Are they suitable for running?
These glasses are best treated as lifestyle camera and audio eyewear, not a replacement for a GPS running watch, sports sunglasses with a proven secure fit, or an in-lens training display. Secure fit, sweat exposure, lens protection and comfort deserve particular attention before using them on longer or faster runs. Recording other people also calls for discretion and respect for privacy.
Meta AI, translation and related functions depend on supported countries, languages, connectivity, app requirements and software updates; not every advertised function is available everywhere. Check compatibility and the specific model before purchase. The displayed US$379 is Meta's announced Gen 2 family starting price, not a guaranteed price for every Wayfarer lens or frame combination. This overview draws on manufacturer information, not a hands-on test.
