Precision Fuel & Hydration's PF 30 Gel is a practical option for runners who prefer counting fuel in simple 30 g carbohydrate units. The standard Original gel is mildly flavoured, relatively fluid and intentionally caffeine-free. It is an energy product, not an electrolyte replacement. It deserves consideration for marathon training and longer trail sessions, but a high price per serving and the absence of sodium are relevant trade-offs.
Verified formula and serving
The manufacturer and Singapore distributor specify 30 g carbohydrate and 120 kcal per 51 g pouch, using maltodextrin and fructose in a 2:1 glucose-to-fructose ratio. The ingredient list is maltodextrin, water, fructose, pectin, citric acid, potassium sorbate and calcium lactate. The Original gel has no caffeine and no added electrolyte dose. Precision Fuel lists Informed Sport batch testing; check current certification and the actual pack for any revised formula.
Who it suits and what to consider
A runner carrying gels in a waist belt or vest can easily calculate the total carbohydrate packed for a session. The gentle Original flavour may be appealing if strongly flavoured gels become tiring, but taste and stomach comfort are individual. An independent SELF guide notes the easy-opening packet and fluid texture, while a Japanese runner's review describes the flavour positively but raises cost as a concern. Neither account guarantees your own experience.
The gel can be taken without immediately washing it down according to the manufacturer, but that does not replace normal hydration. Test the gel, water access and your complete fuel plan in training. Work out how many pouches fit in your carrying system and keep the tear tab and empty wrapper secure rather than dropping litter.

This entry covers the standard PF 30 Original Gel. PF 30 Caff Gel is a distinct caffeinated formulation containing 100 mg caffeine per pouch; PF 90 is a larger-format gel.
