Event Detail
The 40th Pune International Marathon marks another milestone for one of India's longest-running international road races. The event traces its roots to 1983, and the organiser states that Pune became the first Indian marathon to be certified by AIMS. The 2026 edition returns to Baburao Sanas Sports Ground, with routes designed to take runners through Pune's scenic and historic city landscape.
Race day is scheduled for Sunday, 6 December. The organiser currently lists tentative starts of 03:00 for the marathon, 03:30 for the half marathon, 06:15 for the 10K, 07:15 for the 5K and 07:30 for the 3K wheelchair race. Participants are asked to report at least 30 minutes before their race and must show photo identification when collecting their race kit. The official race page also provides GPX files and route maps for the main distances.
The current race-information table gives a 6 hour 30 minute limit for the marathon, 4 hours for the half marathon, 2 hours for the 10K and 1 hour 15 minutes for the 5K. A separate organiser rules page states a 6-hour marathon cut-off, so marathon entrants should confirm the final limit in the race guide before race day. The rules also say the course remains traffic-secured until 08:30, with aid stations operating until 10:00. Finish times are reviewed against timing checkpoints, and missing or irregular splits can be investigated.
The marathon and half marathon are listed as international races, while the 10K is restricted to Indian runners. The 3K wheelchair race is open to all. Entry is non-refundable and race numbers cannot be transferred or sold. Registered marathon, half-marathon, 10K and 5K participants receive an event T-shirt, certificate, medal, timing chip and breakfast, while the organiser's rules also state that finishers in those four distances receive a medal and goody bag.
The organiser has published a substantial cash-prize programme across the marathon, half marathon, 10K, 5K and wheelchair divisions. Current-edition race-pack collection dates and the registration closing date have not yet been clearly published, so runners should monitor the official event site for those logistics.
