Event Detail
Guwahati International Marathon 2027 is the inaugural edition of a new large-scale road race created to establish Guwahati as a major running and sports-tourism destination in Northeast India. Organisers expect around 12,000 participants across five race categories, with elite and recreational runners taking part in the same event. The race is promoted by PMG Sports LLP with Assam Tourism Development Corporation as State Sponsor, and the organisers have assembled an international race-management team led by race director Richard Hunter.
The marathon starts and finishes at the historic Judges Field in central Guwahati. The published marathon route heads west towards Gauhati University, crosses the Brahmaputra on the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu, continues towards IIT Guwahati and then returns across the river to Judges Field. The course has been measured by World Athletics Grade A course measurer Kim Vivian. It gives the event a distinctive city-and-river character, linking central Guwahati with major educational landmarks and the Brahmaputra crossing.
The programme includes 42.195 km, 21.097 km, 10 km, 5 km and a 1.5 km community run. ARC does not currently expose an exact 1.5 km structured distance, so that category is documented here rather than mapped inaccurately. The marathon and half marathon are open to runners aged 18 and over, the 10K to runners aged 15 and over, and the 5K and 1.5K to runners aged 12 and over. Marathon, half marathon and 10K entrants are compulsory timed participants.
Registrations are open through the official District booking link. The organiser has not yet published a definitive distance-by-distance flag-off schedule on its own website. Current public event listings show the overall event beginning at 05:00 local time, so that time is used for the event record while individual category flag-offs remain unset pending official confirmation.
Race bibs will not be issued on race morning. Detailed bib-collection dates, venue, aid-station information and final participant logistics are still to be released. Category changes are permitted only once and must be requested by 6 January 2027. The event also carries a substantial announced prize purse and is intended to combine competitive road racing with Assam's culture, tourism and community participation.
