Event Detail
The 42nd Miura International Citizens' Marathon takes place on Sunday 7 March 2027 on the Miura Peninsula in Kanagawa, Japan. Founded in 1981, it is an established community running festival and Japan's only sister race of the JAL Honolulu Marathon. The event's name can be misleading: the longest race is a half marathon, not a full marathon. The 2027 edition offers half marathon, 10K and 5K road races and separate children's beach runs, with 12,200 places across the programme.
The race village is on the sand at Miura Kaigan Beach. The half-marathon route travels towards Jogashima Island and back, crossing coastal roads, farmland and undulating hills. In clear weather, runners may see Tokyo Bay, the Boso Peninsula and Mount Fuji across Sagami Bay. Organisers caution that the course is hilly. The 10K turns near Matsuwa and the 5K near Kaneda. The half marathon starts at 10:00 with a three-hour limit, the 10K at 08:20 with 90 minutes and the 5K at 10:30 with 50 minutes.
Children in school years one and two can enter untimed 400 m beach runs, starting at 12:25 and 12:40. Children in years three and four have 800 m beach runs at 12:55 and 13:10. These short distances have no matching structured ARC distance options. The half marathon is open from high-school age, 10K from junior-high-school age and 5K from school year five.
Entries opened on 1 October 2026 and are due to close on 24 November unless quotas fill earlier. Bibs, timing tags and shirts will be posted in mid-February 2027, with no race-day collection. The venue is approximately eight minutes' walk from Miura Kaigan Station. No participant parking is provided, and local roads will close. The organisers also host a local food market and plan a draw for three eligible Japan-resident half-marathon finishers to attend the 2027 Honolulu Marathon.
